On Gabriel Jesus not being in group training, Mikel Arteta said: "It's something to do with the numbers we have in the squad at the moment.

"We are managing the situation individually."

On whether that means he is leaving the club: "Personal situations, whatever they are, I think it's clear."

Mikel Arteta started his press conference by giving a team news update.

New signing Ezri Konsa "is available" to make his Gunners debut against former club Aston Villa and "has been training really well."

On whether he will get a good reception at Villa: "I hope so, but I don't know. It's not down to us."

Bruno Guimaraes could "potentially" be in the travelling squad after missing the season opener against Coventry City because of a groin issue.

"We just managed the last few days with him," said Arteta. "He's been out on the pitch doing training sessions, but we need to manage his load in order to get to Monday and for him to get selected."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Jeremy Jacquet: "He played very well considering it was his first game. It's true he finished tired, we had to sub him as I could sense he was tired. He has been very confident on the ball and good without the ball.

"He is very young, a new signing and for sure he will make some mistakes and we have to accept that. But he is performing very well."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on squad depth: "It will depend on the rest of the positions, who is signing, who is leaving. You have to be looking at the overall picture.

"It is not just this position and the other one. We know from the beginning the [positions that needed to be filled].

"There have been tricky situations with the players we have with long-term injuries, so we are probably down a player in some positions. Those have been our main issues. If we can improve in other areas, we will."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on his side's new system: "It's football. At the end we go to the goals always. When you concede two goals because of the transitions, it is normal and I understand you have to talk about the defensive transitions.

"I think we improved during the game, second half I think we were much, much better in terms of leaving the numbers, proper players, behind."

Everything is going to be magnified, for the good and the bad and I think I am starting to understand everything that happens. It is just one game where we did a lot of good things, even the players in midfield, I think they did good things.

"There are definitely things we can improve, like the goals we conceded. I have no doubts that they are all top players. Very good players and now it is a matter of myself and my coaching staff, the players, how we can maximise the potential.

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on other areas of the squad he would like to improve: "'Ideally" is the magic word. At the end, there is certain things you can do and certain things we do not know if we can do. It is true the priority has been strengthening the wide areas.

"Still we have four or five days, I am sure if we can improve other areas, we will. But, I don't know how the market is going to finish. I cannot tell you. I have to be patient, the same as you, I want to know. Believe me, it is very uncomfortable for me, because you are dealing with uncertainties all the time.

"But we have to wait four or five days and then we will know what we have and then make a proper plans."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott: "It is different circumstances, Federico is not available. In the game against Como, he felt something, a small muscle injury and he is not available. I think with Harvey, with Chambers, with some of the other players, I decided, because I can only pick 20, to leave them out. I think it is a matter of finding the balance on the bench.

"In Harvey's case, I think he is trying. He is improving every week, he is improving but still I prefer other options.

"It is another new week and chances for everyone. You have to keep that mentality."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on the steps the team can take to gain more control: "I thought we controlled the game quite well the other day. Obviously we conceded the transitions, it is true. But I think we had meaningful possession.

"I felt like we were quite direct in our attack.

"It is true that we did not win, we drew 2-2. You cannot change this, but I felt we did a lot of good things in that first game."

All along, Andoni Iraola has spoken about how he is waiting for 1 September when he knows what his squad will look like come the end of the window and there was certainly a sense inside the room that even with Bradley Barcola's impending arrival, Liverpool might not be done yet.

Iraola hoped to have "good news" around Barcola as that deal edges closer but he refused to guarantee that Cody Gakpo would still be a Liverpool player come the end of the window.

Liverpool are in the market for another winger, in addition to Barcola and there is a possibility that Gakpo could leave.

The Liverpool boss also revealed that he preferred other options over Harvey Elliott for the 2-2 draw at Newcastle on Sunday and said the magic word is "ideally" when it came to strengthening more areas. Either way, it promises to be a busy few days as the transfer window concludes and "special" too as Iraola leads out Liverpool at Anfield for the first time in the Premier League.

"I don't want to tell Ryan Gravenberch to not carry the ball and arrive to the box, because we scored against Monaco, with Gravenberch, Szoboszlai pass to Alex [Isak] and he scores and no one asked me why are you leaving Gravenberch and Szoboszlai on the edge, they said lovely goal. There is a balance."

We know him from the Premier League, we have played against him, quite a lot. You can see straight away, the shape. They don't concede a lot of chances. The other day against Leeds was a very tight game, not a lot of chances, Leeds won because they scored a free-kick in the 90th minute. But probably, Forest had more chances than Leeds, until that moment.

"We will have to earn every chance. They don't give you anything for free. You have to be very good on the ball, and be patient, because defensively they are very solid.

"We have to control those situations, especially in the transitions because they have good threats on the counter."

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola on stepping out at Anfield as the new manager: "It is definitely a special moment for me [to coach Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League].

"I already felt it in pre-season. When the competition starts for me, I will be thinking of the game and the things I need to think [of]. But it is going to be emotional and I think it has to be like this. It is a special place, I had to fight a lot to arrive to this place and I hope everything goes well and I can enjoy the game."
