Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: "I think everybody knows how tough a test this is for us this evening.

"We'll be massive underdogs in a lot of people's eyes, but we've got to believe that we can cause an upset.

"We had some good performances against Celtic here at Tannadice last season, okay, two different teams in terms of the recruitment that both sides have done, but we have to have a positive mindset, and we have to have a mentality [that's] one of belief.

"Kevin Ciubotaru gets a surprise start here this evening due to Will Ferry picking up a knock in training yesterday morning.

"Obviously we're disappointed to lose Will. We're already going without Dylan Tait, who's picked up two yellow cards in the group stage, which is a rule that I could talk about another day, I don't really agree with it.

"So obviously two key players missing."

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill tells BBC Scotland: "It's nice to be back.

"Dundee United played exceptionally well against us [last time here] because there were plenty of problems that day. They deserve to win the game, and if we're not in the front foot today we'll get the same treatment.

"I think that since that day, it's been obviously a great change, a great change in attitude, things like that there that finally got us over the line which was terrific, and now a new season is upon us.

"We are wanting to do really well in this competition. We'd just like to try and win the competition back if it's at all possible."

On the potential of seeing new signings Mika Baur and Haissem Hassan in action today, he adds: "Baur has the advantage of at least playing some football during the course of pre-season.

"Haissem Hassan, after the World Cup got a couple of weeks off, he hasn't really trained with the team.

"We've just got him in here in the last few days. Hopefully he'll participate in the game at some stage or another, even if it's for a short period of time, but Baur is more likely to spend longer in the field if it's necessary."

Celtic have lifted the trophy 22 times.

Then they were gubbed 4-0 at Tynecastle last weekend.

Celtic huffed and puffed a bit to put Dundee away in their first game but everything clicked at Rugby Park last time as they demolished Kilmarnock 5-1.

Former Hearts, Livingston and Partick Thistle left-back James Penrice has joined Rangers on loan from AEK Athens.

The Ibrox club have an option to buy the 27-year-old.

Meanwhile, 20-year-old Arsenal winger Ismeal Kabia has completed a loan switch to St Mirren.

After a week of criticism and negative noise following an abject display at Dens Park last week, Aberdeen answered up today and more.

The Dons produced a high intensity, high tempo display, one which was full of some real periods of quality too.

The only disappointment for the home side was that they didn't score more, as they easily could such was their dominance.

As for Dundee, it was a really disappointing afternoon.

Steven Pressley's side have made a really positive start to the season and he will be hoping this doesn't knock them off their stride.
