Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken tells BBC Scotland: "We didn't give too many chances away, only the five minutes in the second half. Then, we have to be more direct.

"In some moments, we played too naive and we let them come into the game. We sped up a little bit and it was much easier to take the game to them.

"The players [who were given a chance] have to show what is needed, especially energy. We can evaluate them. Some did good, some not that good. It's good that everyone got more minutes in the legs.

"We did what we had to do, no more than that. We created some good goals which is nice for the players and for the fans. We kept calm when we went behind, we took our moments and didn't panic."

The nerves may not exactly be jangling amongst the home support, but that St Mirren goal will have given some pause for thought after what had been a textbook start from Rangers.

It couldn't have gone much better for Derek McInnes, in search of his first win as Rangers manager at the fifth attempt.

A first goal of the season from Ryan Naderi and a screamer from Vanja Dragojevic had the Ibrox side well in control, but a fine strike from Chris Mochrie has halved the deficit and given St Mirren real hope.

Both sides look capable of adding to their goal tallies come the second-half.

Ryan Naderi might not have known much about the opening goal, but the other two were from the top drawer as Vanja Dragojevic crashed in a beauty to double Rangers' lead.

Djeidi Gassama almost matched that effort with a shot against the crossbar before Chris Mochrie seized on an error from Dragojevic to lash home for St Mirren.
