    A grimace from Ben Stokes as he tempts Miles Hammond outside off stump, but the ball passes through into Ollie Robinson's gloves without grazing willow.

    Another play and miss from Hammond later in the over, a maiden from Stokes, and it's an interesting duel between these two at the moment.

    Ben Coad nips the ball away from Rishi Patel's blade outside off-stump as he continues to cause problems for the Foxes openers.

    Sheridon Gumbs rebews his battle with Matthew Revis aho angles one across the Foxes batter who drives.

    It's not timed at all by the left-hander, but flies away to the third man boundary for four, bringing up the fifty partnership for the opening stand in the 27th over.

    Another one bites the dust.

    The umpires inspected after lunch but with the rain still falling have decided to call it a day.

    The promotion showdown in Division Two looks set to be a last-day scrap for bonus points.

  5. 50 runs

    50 partnership for Bancroft and Hammond

    Durham 331-8 v Glos 137 & 56-2

    Miles Hammond steers Ben Stokes away on the leg side and the ball doesn't quite have the legs to reach the rope, but it's three runs that brings up the 50 partnership.

    Hammond has scored 34 of them and he and Cameron Bancroft are doing well to frustrate Durham for now.

    There's been a few plays and misses out there since the resumption, with Matthew Revis really bending his back.

    Sheridon Gumbs is up on his toes and nudges into the legside for a single to prevent three successive maidens.

    Derbyshire 79-3 v Middlesex

    32.3 overs. That's all we will have had over the opening three days.

    What a shame.

    The first of our nine matches is washed out... it likely won't be the last.

  8. Durham 384 v Glos 137 & 55-2

    The sun's out and Ben Stokes is bustling in... a scene Test match spectators had been used to seeing for many years.

    Their loss, though, is county cricket's gain and Stokes would love to break this third-wicket stand between Cameron Bancroft and Miles Hammond.

    He tests Bancroft with a couple of short balls, skilfully evaded by the Australian opener who is yet to add to the 17 he scored before lunch.

    Short and wide from Ben Coad and Rishi Patel pounces, crashing a shot through the covers for the afternoon's first boundary.

    Patel has reined in his attacking instincts so far and goes to 31 from 76 balls.

    Matthew Revis is thrown the ball for the first time and gets some decent swing, but the watchful Sheridon Gumbs leaves alone (16 from 62)

    Covers are coming off at Sophia Gardens and an inspection is planned for 14:15. Clouds overhead but bits of blue sky so they will be looking at how wet the outfield is.

    We're not expecting the weather to arrive until 6pm, but that's not to say something won't bubble up before then.

    Glos are still 197 behind in their second innings. A lot of work to do to save this match, they have basically got to bat well into tomorrow and build a substantial lead.

    Good news - the weather is continuing to play ball and we have resumed on time after the lunch interval.

    The Leicestershire openers did a sterling job in the 70 minutes of play before lunch.

    Rishi Patel and Sheridon Gumbs have put on 43 for the opening wicket for Leicestershire

    The sense I get from Leicestershire in this innings is that, essentially, they have far more to lose than to gain by being out there right now.

    With grey skies above and a pitch that has some menace, they could easily find themselves skittled for 150, and immediately they would be under pressure from a Yorkshire side foaming at the mouth, led by an attack dog in Jonny Bairstow.

    It will take a big effort to get them to 250 to get one batting bonus point, never mind put themselves in a position where they would have a lead that could force a result. It feels like being out there is a huge risk, with little potential reward.

    Rishi Patel and Sheridon Gumbs, the Foxes openers, batted very well in the hour up until lunch. It was dogged, determined batting. With just 31 runs added in 16 overs, but the weather will be the determining factor here, and the dark grey clouds are on their way.

    Yorkshire would have hoped to ask more questions of the visitors' batsmen, there weren't enough plays and misses in that spell.

    Sussex v Somerset is not only the most advanced of all nine matches, it's also one of the most influential on the table.

    Let's keep everything crossed. Hoping to hear more about an inspection before too long.

    Oh and the final day is always 96 overs, frustrating after so much of the game has been lost to the elements.

    They've got through the session, Cameron Bancroft and Miles Hammond.

    Gloucestershire were 7-2 in the seventh over and the writing appeared to be in rather large letters on the wall.

    They still find themselves in a tough position but they have provided some resistance to this Durham seam attack with this stand of 43.

    A small glimmer of hope provided by the way these two have started.

    Sheridon Gumbs has to take evasive action to avoid a short ball from Ben Cliff which whistles through to Jonny Bairstow.

    Gumbs gets off strike with a single before a lovely drive from Rishi Patel slows up in the outfield. The Foxes opener picks up three.

    The glacial run rate ticks a fraction above two and that's lunch.

    Job done for the Leicestershire openers who have added just 31 runs in the 70 minutes possible before the interval.

    But crucially they remain unscathed as the visitors' seek to avoid defeat.
