What sort of target do Hants dare to set here with a gloomy forecast for Sunday and the pitch tending to flatten rather than deteriorate?

A 16-point haul would do wonders for their relegation fight that's for sure.

It's the final session of day three - and Durham will want to make it the final one of the match as they chase these last five Gloucestershire wickets to complete victory.

The visitors still need another 115 to make Durham bat again and technically, at least, we have 44 overs scheduled for the rest of the day.

No doubt that it will be bowlers rather than batsmen itching to get out under the overcast conditions in most of these Championship games with wickets there for the taking in this round.

Kyle Abbott (Hants) added three in his match at Cardiff against Glam to take his seasonal tally to a table topping 47 at an average of 15.36 per man.

Impressive stuff from the big South African whose 6-21 against Yorks at Headingley in April arguably remains the finest innings bowling for all that it was eclipsed (sort of) by Ben Green's 7-112 against Notts in May.

He'll be hoping the weather allows him the chance of adding to that tally on the final day, you suspect.

Ethan Bamber (Warks) just about kept tabs on Abbott taking two wickets to lift his haul to 44 against Notts at Edgbaston. He has a season's best of 5-48 and an average of 24.61.

Honourable mention, too, for Craig Overton (Somerset) who took four Sussex wickets to move to 37 in third spot in the table. He has a season's best of 5-29 and an average per victim of 19.21.

Again, as with the batters, no prizes for guessing that the leading wicket taker in the second division has been operating largely at Chester-le-Street this season.

Matthew Potts (Durham) has formed one part of the most potent attack in the second flight and has 52 wickets and counting, a best of 8-66 and an average to die for at 17.69.

The sun is out and batting is looking very easy against both seam and spin.

Glam captain Chris Cooke will be disappointed with this start and he is getting a close up look from behind the stumps at a ball doing nowt off the pitch or in the air.

Nick Gubbins (21 from 34) and Ali Orr (19 from 34) are unruffled and accumulating at just under four an over.

It was all going very nicely for Gloucestershire for most of this session, with Cameron Bancroft and Miles Hammond putting together a century partnership to frustrate the home side.

But Kasey Aldridge has enjoyed a remarkable game with the ball. Five wickets in the first innings and he's now taken three today, removing both sett batters as well as Tommy Boorman to reach three figures in First Class cricket.

Durham need five more in the final session to wrap up their seventh victory of the season.

Ben Kellaway is going to slow things down here in Cardiff with his off spin and after the way Hants have sprung from the blocks it is no surprise Chris Cooke is rolling the dice.

Two left handers in his sights so it kind of makes sense but it is a reflection on the inefficiency of the opening pair with this new ball that he is on in the ninth.

It feels like a different game now.

The sun's out and the batters are prospering.

Hants are scoring in fours with six of them coming for the opening pair.

Too much leg side or over-pitched gubbins from the bowlers and Nick Gubbins and Ali Orr are not missing out.

With the tea interval approaching, Durham are sensing an opportunity for them to get this done today.

For now, they're being held up by James Bracey and Tommy Boorman - but the deficit still stands at 116 with just six wickets remaining.

It just feels like there isn't quite as much movement here.

You could say there was extravagant movement in the first morning of the first day, but it's certainly not like that at the moment.

Nick Gubbins is pouncing on anything that is too full, bulleting a on drive off Mir Hamza for four then creaming a cover drive to the rope next ball.

There has not been a great deal of movement through the air but... hang on... what's this? The last ball of Hamza's over hoops away from the bat.

Maybe they just needed to get a bit of lacquer off the new ball.

Tommy Boorman will probably have breathed a sigh of relief after punching Kasey Aldridge for a back-foot boundary to ensure he won't suffer the indignity of a pair in this match.

At the other end, meanwhile, James Bracey picks up an off-driven four against Matthew Potts - who had caught him a nasty blow in, well, let's just say above the pads and below the waist during his previous over.

Timm van der Gugten strays on to leg stump with the final ball of the fifth over and Ali Orr does not miss out, clipping neatly off his legs from the middle and watching admiringly as it races to the rope at square leg.

Give Glam have a new ball in their hands and are fresh this is a slightly disappointing start from the opening pair TvdG and Mir Hamza who are not beating the bat that often, if at all.

For the second time in half-an-hour the rain has started lashing it down within minutes of a scheduled resumption at Hove.
