    Durham v Middlesex 154-4 - target 424

Ryan Higgins is living a bit of a charmed life in the middle.

Kasey Aldridge bowls him one that keeps a bit low and Higgins is lucky to inside edge it past the stumps down for a couple.

If Durham keep creating moments like that, the six wickets will arrive at some point between now and half five.

Ekansh Singh has another maximum to his name, with a similar shot to the one he administered to a Shoaib Bashir ball earlier.

This time Jack Morley, at the beginning of his third over, is sent back over his head. Singh is not interested in allowing Morley to settle.

Bashir had just passed the bat with a beauty with the final delivery of the previous over, which Chris Benjamin survived.

Dan Worrall continues from the Sea End.

Width on a good length and Charlie Tear leaves outside off.

A drive off the back foot is stopped at point. Frustration building as Tear cuts and misses anchored to the crease. Bottom edged into the ground in fact.

That ball kept low. Another maiden over.

Ben Geddes brings up a half-century stand between him and Ryan Higgins with a glorious cover drive off Kasey Aldridge.

It's his third four off the over and is further proof of what a fine strokeplayer Geddes can be.

He moves to 40 not out.

Fisher angles the ball across Tom Haines, who leaves it.

Still a slip and gully in place. A compact cut into the off side...

Single aborted. Charlie Tear was a long way down and scampered back in time. Good fielding by Mahipal Lomror.

    Maiden over.

    Hants 105-9 v Notts - target 178

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James reflects on Notts scoring what he believes was about 70 runs too many on the opening day as Hampshire collect four singles from the latest Tom Giles over.

They need 73 more to win.

An edge from Charlie Tear at the end of the Fisher over but the ball drops safely through gully. No run.

Tom Haines is forward to Dan Worrall, pushing into the off side.

A leg bye off the second ball, turned behind square.

Charlie Tear is looking for his first run and a clip to leg is stopped at mid-wicket.

Now he blocks down the ground. Over. Tear on 0 off 12 balls.

    Durham v Middlesex 123-4 - target 424

Ooh, that is a ripper from Brydon Carse. Too fast for Ryan Higgins and it misses everything.

And again, this one moves away. Great stuff from the England quick.

Then he overcompensates and goes too full, which Higgins helps for four behind square.

Carse is back on the money next ball and Higgins defends.

Another ball that is slightly too full which Higgins pushes legside for a single before Geddes defends the last one off the back foot.

    Interesting over from Carse there.

    Hants 101-9 v Notts - target 178

Notts have three substitute fielders out in the middle, BBC commentator Dave Bracegirdle informs us.

Credit to Hampshire for not just giving this away - Manny Lumsden drives Fraser Sheat into the covers and runs through for a single.

Scott Currie pulls the final ball of the over to square leg where one of the subs, Ben Martindale, makes a hash of the fielding and it costs Notts four runs.

Tom Haines is forward defending Matt Fisher into the off side.

The third ball is driven through mid off for one.

Charlie Tear defends - and it looks like very much a safety first approach from Sussex at this stage.

    Derbys v Kent 51-5 (Target: 434)

Ekansh Singh, new to the crease, decides to alleviate a little Kent pressure by going after Shoaib Bashir and lifting him powerfully straight, with a drive which comfortably clears the rope.

It brings up Kent's 50, but they remain behind the eight ball after the glut of Ben Aitchison wickets this morning.

Wicket maiden completed by Matt Fisher as Charlie Tear defends his first ball solidly into cover.

Dan Worrall to continue. How long does skipper Rory Burns keep the seam bowlers on? This pitch has taken turn - and much of the assistance for the quicker bowlers has been with the new ball only.

Tom Haines drives to deep cover for none.

Charlie Tear pulls his bat inside the line. Lift and away movement there from Worrall.

  14. Appeal - Not Outpublished at 11:39 BST 11 September

    Durham v Middlesex 116-4 - target 424

Ryan Higgins shuffles well across his crease to Brydon Carse and is hit on the pads.

    Not out.

That was well worth an appeal, and it ends up going very fine for four leg byes.

That may have been in the umpire's mind as to how legside it was.

Well played young Manny Lumsden, who blocks out an Olly Stone maiden without undue bother.

Stone is due to take a rest, but Haseeb Hameed is having difficulty persuading him to do so.

Big LBW shout! On the knee roll in front of middle and leg, not far forward - and not given. Legside?

Another and this is much straighter. Out!

    Charile Tear is in.

Let’s not get too despondent Lancs fans . I know we’ve been thoroughly hammered by the bottom team but at least we took it to day 4 and nearly kept the defeat to fewer than 100 runs !

With JT Langridge running through the Lancashire batting I wonder whether Somerset will finally put their faith in a young bowler.? They have had a habit of of late where they take on bowlers who are past their sell by date and release their youngsters.

Dan Worrall is bowling round the wicket to Tom Haines.

Tom Haines is forward... play and miss. Taken low down by keeper Ben Foakes.

Tom Haines is foxed by a beauty, angled in and going over the top of the stumps. This is not easy.

Full, width and driven through cover for four.

This over has had everything. Four more driven with a flowing blade through the off side, beating Ryan Patel to the rope.

Stone has bowled for nearly an hour now but no sign of his pace dropping.
