Nissanka saw that one well. It's not been an explosive start but that will help his confidence.

Mishara is a very good player. When he gets going, he's good to watch. He's strong through the off side and likes to carve any width.

  6. SL 6-0published at 2 overs

    Target 255

Josh Tongue, Baker's team-mate at Hundred champions Manchester Super Giants, starts with a wide down the leg side.

Pathum Nissanka gets off strike again with a single to gully, before the left-handed Kamil Mishara mis-times a shot down to long-on for two to get off the mark as well.

This is what Ben Stokes has had to say about that Harry Brook innings on Instagram.

"I don’t even think the genius of KP could come close to what Harry Brook has talent-wise.

"Is it really that hard to just sit back and admire these players for what they are, on the good days and the bad days, and stop berating them for doing things that we would never, ever, ever even think of doing because we simply aren’t on their level to think that way?

"You are an absolute freak, Harry. You’re mint to watch."

Pathum Nissanka gets off strike by taking a leg bye ball square for a single.

    Thanks Matthew.

England's players have just broken out of a huddle and are making their way to the middle.

Alongside them are Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara, who will open up for Sri Lanka.

Brook now has 288 unbeaten runs in T20Is (79*, 95* v India, 114* v Sri Lanka) – that's second on the world list. The record is 336, Tilak Varma for India, across five innings in 2024-25 (107*, 120* v SA, 19*, 72* and 18 v Eng).

He has knocked Mohammad Ihsan, of Spain, who feasted on some wayward Croatian bowling last year (112*, 160), into third.

  14. How's stat?!published at 20:16 BST 15 September

England faced just 22 dot balls in that innings, the lowest ever recorded in a full innings of T20I cricket.

  15. Postpublished at 20:14 BST 15 September

Brook ends 114 not out from just 49 balls.

Sri Lanka need 255 to win.

That would be the second-highest chase in T20 international history.

Will Jacks is caught on the boundary. There will be no big finish for England but we have witnessed something special from Harry Brook.

  18. Eng 254-3published at 19.5 overs

Five balls without a boundary. I didn't expect this from the last.

  19. Eng 253-3published at 19.4 overs

This is a good final over from seamer Malinga. I can't see how it will matter but still, credit where it is due.

  20. Eng 252-3published at 19.3 overs

Another slower ball. England's bowlers will be taking note.
