    England have done pretty well. Pakistan would have hoped to get England out for 180-200.

    We have seen a lack of bounce all day. So many balls have dropped short of the slips or the keeper. It is baffling that none of them have thought to take a step closer.

    Anyway, Jamie Smith continues his positive start with another thumping drive through the covers for four.

    Sloppy. Pakistan drop another.

    Good length from Mohammad Ali, which draws a thick edge from Jamie Smith as he prods defensively, but Rizwan completely misses it.

    He doesn't seem to pick it up, so the ball races past his right glove for four. More frustration for Pakistan's bowlers, who have been brilliant but haven't been backed up in the field.

    The move to bring deep square leg up offered England a couple of boundaries.

    Having just said there haven't been any boundaries for an age, Jamie Smith whacks the third of the over. Something about London buses, etc.

    That's the first bad over that Ali Usman has bowled, he'd been so consistent up until then.

    Ali Usman offers a couple of freebies, both too short, and Jordan Cox pulls them both to the ropes to bring up a 90-ball half-century.

    Boundaries feel like a thing of the past - England have scored 17 runs and lost one wicket in the last 10 overs.

    England batters have now been run out on four occasions in the five home Tests so far this summer. In the last three home seasons (2023 to 2025) across 18 Tests, England batters had only two run out dismissals.

    Very happy to see hugely talented Jordan Cox doing well. Like me, he was born in Margate, and like me, he plays cricket. Sadly for me that's where the comparisons end.

    Dan Lawrence dawdled a bit.

    No dive at the end, but a good piece of fielding.

    Pakistan will love that. That was good cricket.

    A good breakthrough.

    From nowhere!

    A lapse of concentration just after drinks and Dan Lawrence is on his way. He flicks the ball to mid-wicket and immediately sets off for a risky single but Jordan Cox has barely moved.

    Lawrence is sent back but Shan Masood gets the throw in quickly, and that is a hugely frustrating wicket for England considering how hard those two had worked for that partnership.
