  1. Eng 198-6published at 48 overs

    Four-three-four!

New batter Gus Atkinson faces a couple of dot balls from Khurram Shahzad and then cracks a shot off his legs for four at square leg.

His next shot is down the ground, with the boundary cut-off on the rope.

That brings Jamie Smith on strike and he hits another powerful shot through square.

Pakistan have dropped a few, but that is a belter. That is an absolute corker.

Have a look at that one on the highlights. That reminds me of the Ben Stokes catch at Trent Bridge.

You can watch highlights on BBC Two at 19:00 BST this evening.

    Stunning catch!

Jordan Cox goes to drive Khurram Shahzad's first ball, edges and substitute fielder Salman Ali Agha pulls off a full-length dive to his right to take the catch one-handed.

The sub is mobbed by his team-mates - a heartening moment for him after he was dropped for this game having lead Pakistan at Headingley.

Cox departs for 55 having not added to his total after tea, while his partnership of 67 with Jamie Smith comes to an end.

Jamie Smith can't get anything off the bat.

Nicely played by Jamie Smith and a good partnership developing for England.

We have got two very attacking batsmen.

We're all talking about this reset for England and they have batted slightly differently.

These guys 18 months ago would have been blazing away.

It doesn't take long to change a philosophy.

    Eng 186-5

There's the half-century for Jamie Smith!

He punches Khurram Shahzad through point for four to move within a run of the landmark and then knocks the final ball of the over into mid-wicket to reach 50 from 63 deliveries.

Pakistan had a good period that first hour after lunch.

Jamie Smith came in and took some time to get going, but the way he plays he always looks to be positive and throw a few punches back.

This partnership has got England out of a bit of trouble.

  9. Eng 181-5published at 45 overs

    Cox 55, Smith 45

Just the one run off Mohammad Ali's opening over of the session with Jamie Smith taking a single to backward square.

    Right, off we go then.

Mohammad Ali is bowling the first over after tea, with Jamie Smith facing initially.

He's bowling under sunny skies at Lord's.

England have done well in that last hour. Pakistan will rue a couple of chances. They had a period in that session. Ali Usman bowled nicely, but they just allowed England to win that last hour.

    Thanks Ffion.

Jordan Cox was on 27 from 29 balls at lunch, he's now on 55 from 102.

    He's knuckled down well.

We've got a long evening session ahead because of the overs lost to rain this morning, so I'm going to take a break and leave you in the safe hands of Mike Peter for the time being.

A brilliant recovery from Jordan Cox and Jamie Smith takes England to tea in a pretty good position.

They've added 60 for the sixth wicket off 77 balls, with Cox unbeaten on 55 and Smith has raced to 44.

100-1 off 26 overs in the session.

  16. Eng 177-5published at 43 overs

Nothing's going right for Mohammad Ali here. He's bowled a really challenging spell, and Jamie Smith was dropped off his bowling.

But Smith adds to his frustration by guiding the ball for four through the gap between second slip and gully.

England stalled a bit after Dan Lawrence got run out, but Smith has counter-attacked brilliantly to get them out of that rut.

If England get to 250 it’s a good, responsible and dare I say it mature score on this wicket. Jordan Cox has been outstanding.

    Paul, Glasgow

I know every ground plays differently but I've been keeping my eye on the county scores and these conditions throughout the country seem to really be beneficial to the bowling team today. 220 would be a good score in my opinion.

Jamie Smith has been riding his luck a bit, including that drop on 15, but amidst the erratic shots have been some absolute beauties.

This is a contender for shot of the day, as he stands tall in the crease and wallops Khurram Shahzad for four through the covers.

He clips another through the leg side for three to conclude an expensive over, with nine coming from it as England approach tea positively.

  19. Eng 158-5published at 41 overs

10 minutes to go until tea, and Jordan Cox continues to grind it out. He survives a testing maiden from Mohammad Ali.

PitchViz rating in this Test so far:

    • Session one - 6.5
    • Session two - 4.8 (as of the 40th over)

Conditions have been easier to bat in the post-lunch session as ball has gotten older today, with the threat of extra bounce reducing from this pitch.
