Have your say on England men this winter

  1. SL 395-5published at 46.1 overs

    This is on!

Back-to-back fours to start Sam Curran's over. Liyanage has been fantastic here, going from ball one. He moves to 39 off 17!

It's been a hell of a game, hasn't it? It is very, very much game on. I still feel like England are going to win but they have to be clinical.

  3. SL 387-5published at 46 overs

    43 needed off 24 balls

Will Jacks recovers the over well.

Arachchige edges over the keeper, and Josh Tongue does well to haul it inside the ropes and they run three.

  4. SL 382-5published at 45.1 overs

Smoked through the covers! A lovely opening boundary for Sahan Arachchige.

I can give a lot of kudos to Sri Lanka’s batting, but England’s bowling has been abysmal. Short and wide, followed by short and wide.

  7. SL 377-5published at 45 overs

    53 needed off 30 balls

And he ends the over with four more, slammed past mid-off!

Liyanage moves to 29 off 13.

  8. How stat?!published at 16:46 BST 22 October

Dasun Shanaka falls just short of the fastest ever ODI hundred by a Sri Lankan. Sanath Jayasuria's 55-ball effort in 2008 against Bangladesh still holds the title.

If that ball had passed over Tom Banton's head and gone for six, it would have been the joint-14th fastest ODI hundred of all time. Agonisingly close for Shanaka.

  9. SL 372-5published at 44.2 overs

Still, Janith Liyanage still fancies it!

Jamie Overton's over starts with back-to-back fours...

Ah! Dasun Shanaka falls three short of his century!

He tries to take Liam Dawson down the ground but picks out Tom Banton, but what a magnificent knock that was - 97 off 50.

Sri Lanka need 67 off 36, which felt doable when he was in.

England are being given something to think about here. An exceptional chase from Sri Lanka so far.

This over has changed the complexion of this game massively. This has turned out to be a thrilling game of cricket.

  12. 6 runs

    SL 362-4published at 43.4 overs

Janith Liyanage takes the pressure off his batting partner brilliantly.

He reverses Liam Dawson for four before launching the next ball down the ground for six!

  14. 6 runs

    SL 350-4published at 43 overs

    80 needed off 42 balls

    And a third!

Slammed over the leg side as Sam Curran drops too short again. 20 off the over, Shanaka moves to 96.

What a game this has been.

  15. 6 runs

    SL 344-4published at 42.4 overs

    Another!

Down the ground this time. Shanaka moves to 90 off just 46 balls.

  16. 6 runs

    SL 336-4published at 42.1 overs

    Walloped over square leg!

Shanaka picks up the pace again.

There has to be a lot of respect for Sri Lanka. They didn't wilt under pressure, they didn't collapse.

  18. SL 330-4published at 42 overs

    100 needed off 48 balls

Very good from Will Jacks, firing the ball in fast and straight as Dasun Shanaka has no room to free his arms.

Four off the over and Sri Lanka's hopes are fading.

    Target 430

Janith Liyanage joins Dasun Shanaka in the middle, and he needs to get going straight away if Sri Lanka are going to stay in contention without Rathnayake out there.

    Some relieved England faces there.

Pavan Rathnayake looked like he was waiting for the moon ball and just tried to lift it rather than hit it. The catch is taken at long-on and England will be so relieved.

It felt like that moment might never come.
