Have your say on England men this summer

  1. Goodnightpublished at 19:50 BST

That's all from us for day two at Headingley, where I think we saw a lot more cricket than we expected given the damp start.

Make sure you read Stephan Shemilt's report here.

England lead Pakistan by 195 runs with two wickets in hand and could wrap this up in three days - you won't want to miss it!

We'll be back at 10:45 BST on Friday. See you then!

Today's five-fer by Ali Usman is the first five-wicket haul for a visiting spinner since Roston Chase's 5-177 in Manchester in 2020.

The last Pakistan spinner to take five-fer in England was Yasir Shah in 2016 at Lord’s (6-72).

Jordan Cox just looked a player. He looks like he's got all the time and he played two or three shots today that reminded me of AB de Villiers.

Those punches through the covers - and they're decent balls he's hitting. One or two clips through mid-wicket. He's a proper player.

I think England have had really good day.

Harry Brook, he didn't play one reckless shot, he just went out and batted. If he carries on batting with that mindset, he'll score a million runs. It was risk free, he was dropped on one but these things happen, you just move on.

The way in which he went about his innings today is what people have been crying out for.

England resumed on 112-2 with Jordan Cox (73) and Joe Root (66) in the middle, and both players passed fifty as they built a 150-run third-wicket stand.

They fell in quick succession before Harry Brook (91) and Dan Lawrence (51) picked up the scoring mantle, putting on a century partnership of their own (120) for the fifth wicket.

Brook was agonisingly dismissed in the 90s as he fell nine runs short of his maiden Test century on home soil at Headingley before Ali Usman removed Gus Atkinson and Ollie Robinson with consecutive deliveries to complete his five-fer.

England ended day two on 366-8, leading Pakistan by 195 runs. Jamie Smith is unbeaten on 16 (35), Jofra Archer is yet to get off the mark.

Jordan Cox was my pick of the day for England.

This Pakistan attack is nothing but ok. When you sit and watch from the balcony, you know that you should be putting up something big against them.

Pakistan can take a bit of heart from that end to the day.

England's batters have contributed all through the order, apart from the tail. England are still in a really strong position.

We had to wait until 14:45 BST to see any cricket but in the end, it's been another dominant day for England, with half-centuries for Jordan Cox (73), Joe Root (66), Harry Brook (91), and Dan Lawrence (51).

Ali Usman gave Pakistan's fans something to cheer with a couple of late wickets to notch up a five-fer. He has 5-92 from 23 overs.

  11. Close - Eng 366-8published at 82 overs

    Lead by 195 runs

Five-wicket man Ali Usman bowls the final over the day. Jamie Smith blocks and blocks and blocks again before finishing day two with a single.

England lead by 195 runs with two wickets in hand.

  12. Eng 365-8published at 81 overs

Jamie Smith picks a single off Muhammad Abbas.

Abbas grins as he beats Jofra Archer's outside edge. Hit a crack.

    Time for one more over.

Cricket really is a funny old game. This match has rattled along, should be done tomorrow, weather dependent, but feels like a proper Test match. Bravo!

That five-fer from Ali Usman is the first visiting five-fer on this ground in 54 years.

Fielders crowd around the bat but Jofra Archer defends into the vacant silly point region. No hat-trick but a fine over from Ali Usman.

Into the final 10 minutes at Headingley. England lead by 193 runs with two wickets in hand.

That is an absolute beauty. This one has held and turned, clipped the top of Ollie Robinson's offstump, he's played the line of the ball but that one gets through.

That is a magnificent piece of bowling. Five wickets, he should be proud of himself.

It's two in two for Ali Usman! Dare I say that's the first major milestone for Pakistan in this game.

    What a delivery that was.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 79.5 overs

    Robinson b Usman 0 (Eng 364-8)

It's five for Ali Usman and unlike Josh Tongue and the dismissed Ollie Robinson, he won't have to cut the ball in half!

That straightened on Robinson, who is out for a first-ball duck.

Usman is on a hat-trick. Ooooooh.

This one seemed to skid on again, similar to the Harry Brook dismissal.

Ali Usman has clearly been the pick of the bowlers. That one had the line and the length, zooted through and surely would've hit leg stump.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 79.4 overs

    Atkinson lbw b Usman 3 (Eng 364-7)

Fourth wickets for Ali Usman, trapping Gus Atkinson lbw.

Atkinson trudges off, shoulders slumped. He can't review it - Ben Duckett, Jordan Cox and Joe Root wasted them all.

It wouldn't have helped Atkinson, smacking into leg stump.
