It was a fantastic morning for the Bears, picking up five wickets and keeping it tight. They've kept the pressure on.

They've been relentless with the ball in the past few weeks, bowling sides out for less than 100 regularly, and today they've got the Foxes 78-5.

Chris Woakes, who took his 650th first-class wicket earlier today, will bowl the first over after lunch at Edgbaston.

The former England all-rounder has 2-11 from his first six overs.

Promotion may be out of reach for Middlesex but they have made a fine start with the ball at Lord's this morning, off the back of winning the One-Day Cup on Sunday.

They beat Leicestershire by 31 runs at Trent Bridge to clinch their first trophy since winning the Championship in 2016.

The Bears have made a brilliant start but need to be ruthless as they have been in recent games. Finish the innings off quickly then build a lead. Rob Yates and Sam Hain are key to that. Looking good but many a slip and all that!

Looks like Kent are in the driving seat for promotion from Div 2, especially given Northants troubles at Lord's. However, never underestimate the possibility of a Kent batting collapse later!

    Worcestershire 104-3 v Derbyshire

Derbyshire collected their first bowling bonus point just a few minutes before lunch with Adam Hose plumb lbw to Amit Basra's medium pace for 27.

It ended a 53-run stand with Jake Libby, who batted patiently through the morning for 29 not out off 60 balls.

Mo Abbas claimed the first two wickets of the day, with Dan Lategan - who hit five fours in a quickfire 26 - and Rehaan Edavalath both edging to second slip.

Shoaib Bashir has sent down four overs so far at a cost of 13 runs, but Derbyshire are without all-rounder Ben Aitchison because of injury.

  13. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 12:37 BST 24 September

    Lancashire v Durham 112-1

A dominant display from Division Two champions Durham this morning despite the early loss of captain Alex Lees.

He was caught behind off Tom Bailey but the Red Rose have badly missed captain James Anderson as Ben McKinney and England's Emilio Gay have put together an unbroken stand of 102.

McKinney has passed 1,000 Championship runs for the season and is 64 not out at the interval, with Gay - who played some eye-catching cover drives - on 41 in his first Championship innings since May.

Durham are looking for a 10th win of the campaign and it could be a long afternoon ahead for Lancashire unless they can quickly get rid of one of these two following the resumption.

A 50-partnership between Tribe and ul Hassan, before the latter fell courtesy of a Zaman Akhter ball. Tribe could have faced an early exit but he has steadied to 39 runs in an opening innings that Glamorgan will be pleased with.

  15. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:36 BST 24 September

    Somerset v Surrey 86-2

A maiden over for Jack Leach takes us to lunch at Taunton with Surrey 86-2.

Rory Burns started well, scoring runs at will, including two sixes, but then top-edged one to rather give his wicket away.

Then Archie Vaughan found some turn to dismiss Ryan Patel shortly before the interval.

Dom Sibley is unbeaten on 35 and Ollie Pope, who has only just joined the action, is on three from eight balls.

  16. Lunch at Canterburypublished at 12:34 BST 24 September

    Kent v Gloucestershire 74-2

After winning the toss and putting Gloucestershire in, Kent will perhaps feel slightly disappointed at picking up only two wickets during the morning at the St Lawrence Ground.

Matt Milnes removed Joe Phillips in the third over of play but they were then held up by a 62-run stand between Ollie Price and Tommy Boorman.

Boorman eventually fell to Ekansh Singh for 29, but Price remains on 37 not out, with new partner Miles Hammond collecting a couple of runs from the final ball of the session.

News of how promotion rivals Northants are faring at Lord's may make Kent feel a whole lot better.

  17. 'Absolutely perfect' from Vaughanpublished at 12:33 BST 24 September

    Somerset v Surrey 86-2

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

A lovely bit of bowling, finds the outside edge and a low catch from Overton. I think that’s pitched on middle and leg, Patel has pushed forward, there’s a bit of turn. It’s absolutely perfect.

  18. Lunch at Utilita Bowlpublished at 12:33 BST 24 September

    Hampshire v Sussex 97-4

Sussex wickets have fallen steadily in the morning session, with Charlie Tear (39 not out) the only visiting batter to pass 20.

Hampshire are already relegated while Sussex could still finish second in Division One if results go their way in the final round of games.

Advantage Warwickshire at Edgbaston as the Bears look to secure their first County Championship title for five years.

Warwickshire will be champions if they beat Leicestershire and they've taken five wickets in the morning session after the Foxes won the toss and chose to bat.

Chris Woakes and Ethan Bamber did the early damage with the new ball, before Olly Hannon-Dalby and Ed Barnard took wickets in successive balls.

  20. Lunch at Trent Bridgepublished at 12:32 BST 24 September

    Nottinghamshire 63-1 v Yorkshire

An attritional but high quality first session on day one comes to an end.

After being put into bat on a green-looking track, Nottinghamshire may well be happy with their efforts.

Yorkshire's Ben Coad provided the break through, getting Ben Slater to edge to Adam Lyth at second slip for 18.

The run rate has just popped back over 2 with Ben Martindale hitting three boundaries in the final over before lunch.
