England haven't seemed to have learnt anything from when India were bowling.

I keep saying it, nothing short or it goes to the stands.

    Finesse and power.

Rohit Sharma drops to a knee to sweep new bowler Sam Curran's fourth ball fine, then dispatches the follow-up delivery for six at backward square.

It's dropped in the first row of the crowd.

Good lengths from England. 46% of their deliveries have been short of a good length, and India have found it tough to score off. At the same point in their bowling innings, India were short just 28% of the time.

Really good comeback from Josh Tongue. You get nothing from going short on this pitch, it will go straight into the stands.

  5. Ind 49-0published at 10 overs

Having conceded 14 runs from his first over, Josh Tongue sends down a maiden for his second.

Rohit Sharma can't get the Nottinghamshire seamer away.

That's the end of the powerplay - England were 58-0 at this stage.

Chasing 250 in the IPL is not unheard of. If India get to 150-1 from 30 overs, they will back themselves.

    Need quick wickets now.

India have had a good start.

One thing about an Indian side is that a total won't phase them. England are going to have to be right in the mark. Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are pure class.

  8. Ind 49-0published at 9 overs

Shubman Gill adds another boundary, punching Jofra Archer through mid-wicket.

He tries to take India to 50 by hurrying through a quick single, but is sent back by Rohit Sharma and has to dive to beat Sam Curran's throw from mid-on.

A direct hit might have been interesting.

India start teeing off and this will get really interesting. They have the quality and depth. It's whether England keep a tight lead on them by bowling and fielding well.

Josh Tongue has been dispatched. That's a massive shot, from low to high.

That's the Rohit Sharma pull shot. The front foot just doesn't move, he just waits.

    Ind 43-0published at 8 overs

That's the way to shift a gear!

England bring Josh Tongue on to replace Gus Atkinson and the seamer drifts onto Rohit Sharma's legs - the veteran opener doesn't need asking twice, he flicks fours out to fine and square leg.

A couple of dot balls follow before Tongue drops it very short and Rohit sends the delivery flying deep into the stands at backward square.

14 off the over, much needed for India.

  13. Ind 29-0published at 7 overs

    Pulled strongly!

Shubman Gill dispatches Jofra Archer to the ropes at square leg for four.

Rohit Sharma will go out as an all-time great on the short ball. Against balls pitched 9m or shorter, Rohit averages 69 in ODIs; in the last 20 years, among those with at least 500 runs against the short ball, only Ross Taylor and Kane Williamson average more.

  15. Ind 24-0published at 6 overs

Thick outside edge... goes for four.

Rohit Sharma dances down the pitch to Gus Atkinson, targeting the off side.

He clips the ball instead and it flies away for a boundary at third.

Atkinson fires a delivery between Shubman Gill's bat and pad a few balls later.

Write India off at you’re peril, this is still a world-class batting line-up but fingers crossed we can take an early wicket or two.

You feel as if India must make a play now. They can't really afford much longer with out making the most of this powerplay.

  18. Ind 17-0published at 5 overs

    Finds the gap!

Shubman Gill cuts Jofra Archer through a packed off side, reaching the ropes at point.

India do do this though. They give themselves a second to get settled in and they go for it.

It's not often where you see them get off to a flyer straight away.

I've seen enough ODIs on this pitch to know that the batting gets harder and harder as the day goes on.

I've seen enough Indian cricket to not say anything yet. There's certainly some quality in that top seven.
