    Awais c Cox b Lawrence 59 (Pak 125-3)

UltraEdge shows a spike. England have their breakthrough!

A decent catch by Jordan Cox down the legside, even if he was not completely certain that Azan Awais had actually got some bat on it.

Jofra Archer comes sprinting in to join in the celebrations.

Dan Lawrence into the attack as England turn to spin.

Has he got a wicket with his second ball?

Azan Awais looks to flick it off his legs and Jordan Cox thinks he's got a feather on it.

Given not out but Joe Root sends it upstairs.

Absolutely sums it up for Gus Atkinson. Another one just gets through the slips. The hardest thing is convincing yourself that you're bowling right. He is bowling right, it's just not running for him at all.

  4. Pak 125-2published at 30 overs

Azan Awais plays a risky shot off Gus Atkinson which flies wide of the cordon and he picks up three.

Shan Masood then more decisively cuts Atkinson's penultimate delivery of the over for four.

Lovely piece of work by Ollie Robinson who can do no wrong at the moment... Wickets, runs, babies!

  6. Pak 118-2published at 29.2 overs

A glimmer of a run-out chance after Shan Masood takes a quick single off Gus Atkinson and Ollie Robinson hits the stumps at the non-striker's end with a throw from mid-on.

The Pakistan batter makes his ground, though.

Two left-handers looking set against pace, if I was Joe Root I'd be tempted at a couple of overs with that golden arm off-spin before lunch.

Pakistan have manoeuvred their way through this opening hour and 15 minutes without too many alarms.

  9. Pak 117-2published at 29 overs

Pakistan have yet to pass 200 in this series, but they look in a fairly comfortable position here.

Josh Tongue, under duress perhaps, reverts to short-pitched bowling.

He's fuller with his final delivery to Azan Awais who squirts a square drive for four beyond the fielder at point.

England are in a fantastic dominating position but they've got to get it done.

I don't even think that any of Pakistan's supporters would've thought they'd be 109-2 at this point in the day.

They're still an awful long way away though. It just shows what's possible, well played to these two.

  12. Pak 109-2published at 28 overs

Gus Atkinson continues after the drinks break.

He beats the outside edge of Azan Awais' bat which prompts a bit of encouragement from the cordon to the England seamer.

Atkinson rather somberly collects cap at the end of the over. He's looked a bit subdued in this series generally.

    Thanks, Matthew.

The stands a lot more full at Edgbaston than the first two days.

Certainly the Hollies looks closer to capacity, and they probably want to get their money's worth so won't mind a bit of Pakistan resistance in this morning session.

Josh Tongue tests Azan Awais out with some short stuff but he counters that well enough too. Pakistan have made it to drinks without losing a wicket. I did not expect that.

Timothy Abraham will take you through the next little bit.

Typically, another drive goes in Theo Wylie's direction again but this one is in the gap. It helps Shan Masood reach his first fifty of the series.

  17. How's stat?!published at 11:59 BST 11 September

    Andy Zaltzman
    Test Match Special statistician

Over the summer, Ollie Robinson has had 28 wickets with an average of 7.8, bowling 100 overs. Only three players in Test history have had a season average beneath ten whilst bowling over 100 overs in England.

  18. Pak 95-2published at 25 overs

Joe Root goes up to Theo Wylie at the end of the over to make sure he's alright. He puts an arm around him and pats him on the back. A lovely touch.

It is one of those weird things about cricket that Englahd have two subfielders on - a 21-year-old and a 20-year-old, neither of whom are even regulars for their county.

That was a tough chance. It is a hard job coming on as a sub fielder.

  20. dropped catch

    Ah. Down.

Shan Masood slices to backward point but the catch goes down. It's 20-year-old sub fielder Theo Wylie. That can't be a good feeling.
