Great Britain, seeking a first European title for a decade, won their heat by more than four seconds without 400m finalists Yemi Mary John and Amber Anning - who subsequently suffered a hamstring injury.
The Brits were nearly three seconds faster than the next-quickest qualifiers, Netherlands. However, the Dutch are chasing a third successive European crown and will be significantly strengthened by the return of individual bronze medallist Lieke Klaver and their trump card: Femke Broeders-Bol.

Sawyers has had so many injuries, had to fight back from so many disappointments. A European championship medal in front of a home crowd will mean a lot.
That means Italy win another gold, as European indoor champion Larissa Iapichino adds the outdoor gold to her record.

She cannot improve either! That means Jaz Sawyers will definitely finish in the top three and is guaranteed a medal.

Croatian Sara Kolak had not won a major championship gold since claiming the Olympic title at Rio 2016.
But she has won another major tonight, the 31-year-old triumphing with 62.43 metres from her first throw of the evening.
Germany's Julia Ulbricht takes silver, with bronze going to Serbia’s 22-year-old Adriana Vilagos.
Vilagos adds bronze to her Euro silvers from 2022 and 2024 - but no gold yet.
