After 17 phases, this time they lose it forward.

That's another good defensive effort from the All Blacks.

South Africa really have their tails up now.

    Five metres out again...

We're in a lengthy TMO review...Cam Roigard is quite obviously offside.

As the replay is shown on the big screen, the number nine looks like he's hiding behind his pack.

Don't think that'll help get away with it, to be honest.

Pieter-Steph du Toit (con Morne van den Berg)

And just like that, the Springboks are into a three-score lead!

There's been some brilliant performances out there tonight and Morne van den Berg has been up there.

He scampers through to get his side on the front foot and, with his side knocking away at the line, it's Pieter-Steph du Toit who burrows over.

1 hour 20 mins since kick-off and we were only 7 minutes into the second half. I know the game is in the States but that doesn’t mean it has to last as long as an NFL match.

The World Cup seedings and draw really need to be fixed much later. We want to see form teams going deep into the tournament, not "form teams from a couple of years ago".

Absolutely crazy that these two teams, peerless among tier one nations, are going to meet in the QFs. They’re a brilliant advert for our sport!

    Malcolm Marx (missed con)

From the resulting line-out, South Africa need to be patient but, with the help of Damian de Allende and Ethan Hooker, the pack rumble over and it's Malcolm Marx on hand to score off the maul.

And the replacements make an immediate impact as Thomas du Toit ekes a penalty out of Ethan de Groot.

That's the sign for Dave Rennie to replace his entire front row.

South Africa go to the corner...

Not the sub that BokDog wanted to see but Gerhard Steenekamp, Thomas du Toit, Lood de Jager, and Andre Esterhuizen are all on as Rassie Erasmus looks to his replacements.

Penalties cost the All Blacks the last match, will it be the same again?

Manie Libbok HAS to come on. Sacha is out of form. Has been all season. Poor again today.

Another break from Arendse. He's made a great start to this second half.

Will Jordan knocks on and the Boks will have the scrum deep in opposition territory.

Considering all the breakdown threats the Springboks have in their arsenal, it seems almost unfair when Morne van den Berg gets in on the act.

A great turnover by the number nine on his opposite number.

I think All Black fans have their proof of concept under Rennie. Regardless of the outcome of this Test, ABs fans are happy with the direction. Line breaks and tries aplenty. Accuracy will come - Rennie's had three months - Rassie nine years.

Jasper Wiese is a bit of a monster isn't he?

The South Africa number eight, who spent four seasons at Leicester Tigers before heading to Japanese club rugby in 2024, made 49 metres with ball in hand, off just eight carries, in the first half.

Only South Africa full-back Damian Willemse made more ground before the break.

Kurt-Lee Arendse already up to speed in this second half.

He breaks smartly upfield but the attack is halted as Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is pinged for coming in at the side.

How much have they come on under Dave Rennie after the Scott Robertson era?

And without getting ahead of ourselves...how big a shame is it that this is a potential QUARTER-FINAL at next year's World Cup?

A half that was a microcosm of the series.

South Africa superior in so many of the basics - again bossing the breakdown, set-piece and aerial game - but New Zealand are playing some brilliant rugby with the ball in hand, getting outside the Bok blitz, and staying in touch on the scoreboard.

Ultimately, even if the All Blacks level this series, South Africa are a more well-rounded rugby team at this stage.

But the All Blacks have taken some big stride forwards under Dave Rennie, and have asked questions of the Boks that are seldom asked.

Are these two leaving the rest of the rugby world behind?

  19. Half-time - South Africa 17-14 New Zealandpublished at 42 mins

Clock in the red...is there more to come?

No. Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu aims for the corner but on a normal weekend here in Baltimore that one would be straight through the endzone.

He kicks it dead and the half is over...clocking in at 57 minutes.

That's the thing about this South Africa side - even when you score against them, you have to work so, so hard and be so, so accurate to cross the whitewash.

Whereas they seem to be able to play the percentages, turn the screw at set-pieces and pick up points in a much lower-risk way.
