Blair Murray showed his pace and his confidence to finish off a great try.

But I think Cam Winnett will be disappointed with that one.

    Nothing wrong with that though!

Scarlets play off the scrum and put Blair Murray in motion with a neat inside ball by Eddie James.

He skins Cam Winnett to race over - Scarlets will love to see him running in open play.

Anscombe converts for his first Scarlets points.

    Scarlets 5-7 Cardiff

A really poor period of play with Scarlets losing possession with a sloppy midfield pass, then Cardiff wasting turnover ball.

Josh McNally knocked the ball on and was then fortunate to not be punished for stopping playing.

Sam Lousi threatened but there was nobody on his shoulder and we go back for a Scarlets scrum.

    Scrappy.

    Scarlets 5-7 Cardiff

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

The Scarlets were not quite aggressive enough, the ball was in the air a long time and they had enough time to push them out.

But fair play to Cardiff they got themselves in a great position and rumbled on towards the posts.

    Dan Thomas (con: Callum Sheedy)

Flanker Dan Thomas gets up with blood on his face but he won't mind after opening Cardiff's account against his former side.

The driving line-out goes over and then Callum Sheedy adds the extras.

    Cardiff lead.

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

Tables turned at scrum time - Cardiff put the pressure on to win a penalty just outside the 22.

Sheedy bangs the ball to the corner rather than pointing to the posts.

  7. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

Wonderful combination from Wales internationals Teddy Williams and Taine Basham, with the lock and the back-row forward both going on the run.

Cardiff's first meaningful attack ends with a knock-on when Basham pops the ball up to Mason Grady.

Great to see Williams back fit after he dislocated a foot in the early part of last season.

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

The Scarlets are getting a lot of change out of the aerial game.

But when the Cardiff defence is broken up, they are pumping through the tackle really well and creating momentum from there.

  9. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

Cardiff tight-head Javan Sebastian pinged at the scrum and Scarlets kick for the corner... only for Anscombe to fail to make touch.

That's a killer for the hosts.

They could have been in the 22 but instead are back on halfway.

To be fair, you want your fly-half to go big with penalties rather than going for a rugby league style effort.

  10. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

Cardiff are struggling in the air at the moment.

Scarlets getting wings Ellis Mee and Macs Page up effectively when chasing kicks.

Cardiff haven't really had a sniff yet.

  11. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Scarlets 5-0 Cardiff

    Ian Gough
Former Wales international on BBC Radio Wales

Scarlets are getting over the gain line and getting on the front foot.

Blacker worked really well off the back of some really good pick and go work.

  12. try

    Joe Roberts

Great start by Scarlets, who have had joy with the aerial game.

Dane Blacker and Sam Lousi combine to put centre Joe Roberts over down the right.

Scrum-half Blacker with good footwork and then Lousi with the offload.

Great start for the hosts, although Anscombe can't make it a seven-pointer.

  13. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Scarlets 0-0 Cardiff

Encouraging signs for Scarlets from the first scrum, although Cardiff did escape without a penalty.

Former Australia, and now Samoa, prop Scott Sio has been brought in to try and shore up the Blue and Blacks' set-piece.

  14. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Scarlets 0-0 Cardiff

Nice early touches for the young Scarlets pair of Osian Williams and Will Evans, followed by Blair Murray jinking away.

The attack ends with a knock-on by Elias.

Both sides will be keen to settle quickly on opening night.

I'm sure the messages in the summer would've been about how to not just keep the same standards, but improve them.

Everyone knows how good they can be and they face a massive challenge to reach the top eight once again.

    Ken Owens

Last year was a tough season for the Scarlets, discipline was an issue for them.

They showed what they were capable off at times and they've recruited well in the summer.

I'm sure they will be looking forward to starting the season positively.

Ryan Elias has had to fight back from several serious injuries and tonight gets the reward when running out for his 200th appearance for Scarlets.

The Wales hooker won his 50th cap in Argentina in July but brings up this milestone closer to home.

The 31-year-old from Carmarthenshire made his debut for Scarlets in 2014

    "I'm unbelievably proud," said Elias.

"I would have dreamed of having one game, let alone 200, so to sustain performances in the jersey for so long is special."

Scarlets won in Cardiff and Cardiff won in Llanelli last season, and both teams were left wondering how they suffered defeat on home soil.

The Blue and Blacks recorded what proved to be a crucial win on their way to the play-offs in April when things had looked grim for them at 24-7 down going into the final 10 minutes.

The west Walians imploded after yellow cards for Taine Plumtree and Blair Murray with Javan Sebastian's double and Cam Winnett's try earning Cardiff a 28-24 success.

Former Scarlets tight-head prop Sebastian sparked wild celebrations with his try with the clock in the red.
