    Scarlets 12-14 Cardiff

    End to end stuff.

Cardiff try a cross-kick in the 22 but it's well covered by Joe Roberts, who then puts Blair Murray running down the right.

He kicks ahead and thankfully for Cardiff they have good cover from Jacob Beetham.

    Changes already for Scarlets.

Props Josh Morse and Gabe Hawley and back-row Tristan Davies come on up front.

    Scarlets 12-14 Cardiff

Cardiff get big runners Mason Grady and Taine Basham on the charge, then Teddy Williams follows.

Just as the visitors are scenting a chance, Basham knocks on with his second big carry on the 22.

    Better from Cardiff though.

After a long delay while the players wait for the go-ahead, Cardiff fly-half Callum Sheedy gets the game back under way.

Which Welsh side will start the season with a win? Which bench will have the bigger impact?

This is the final fixture of the opening round of the United Rugby Championship and we should get a first Welsh winner, barring a dramatic draw.

The Irish provinces have endured a rare winless weekend, although champions Leinster will probably be content to have earned a pair of consolation bonus points from their 27-24 defeat by Lions in Johannesburg.

Last night there was an excellent 34-29 win by Edinburgh against Ulster in Belfast while Stormers also won on the road, beating Connacht 29-15.

Dragons drew 19-19 at Benetton thanks to Elliot Dee's late try, although it would have been even better had Tinus de Beer's tricky conversion not struck the left post.

Ospreys earned a four-try bonus when well beaten by Sharks, Bulls eased past Zebre in Parma while Glasgow won a cracker against Munster in Limerick.

Sadly, we won't be seeing Jac Morgan and Dewi Lake in URC action this season after they left Ospreys for Gloucester.

They made superb starts to life in the Prem with Lake scoring a double as the Cherry and Whites upset Exeter at Sandy Park.

Louis Rees-Zammit was also at the double in Bristol's win at Sale.

There is plenty of Welsh interest for Steve Tandy over the border as he mulls over his squad for November's Nations Championship.

I thought the Scarlets had the better of the first half. They had good momentum, they were pumping through the tackle and getting over the gain line.

They restricted Cardiff to their own half, but they had two opportunities in the Scarlets 22, and they were ahead.

They haven't been perfect tonight but the opportunities they've had they've been super clinical, Scarlets will be kicking themselves to be losing at half time.

An entertaining first half in Llanelli and it's Cardiff who have the edge in a tight encounter.

Some big performances, with Eddie James arguably the pick, but it's the extra conversion by Callum Sheedy that is the difference.

Tough one to call, but you would expect that after how the derbies between these sides went last season.

  10. Half-timepublished at 20:31 BST 26 September

    Scarlets 12-14 Cardiff

The clock goes red but Cardiff keep playing from their own half.

A huge carry by Basham gets them into the 22 but Scarlets scramble well.

Play slows and the hosts reset. Callum Sheedy has a crack at a drop goal but pulls it.

    Very clinical from Cardiff.

They didn't make any silly mistakes, kept their momentum and they squeezed over.

Converted try: Scarlets 12-14 Cardiffpublished at 37 mins

    Taine Basham (con: Callum Sheedy)

The drive is stopped by Cardiff, forcing Johan Mulder to peel away and have a dart.

He is caught high by Elias but the visitors don't need another chance.

Taine Basham is lethal from close range and scores a try that Callum Sheedy improves.

    Cardiff have the lead back.

  13. Postpublished at 36 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

Scarlets' backs are caught offside at a line-out - a cheap penalty - and that allows Cardiff to go back to the corner.

Callum Sheedy nudges the ball 10 metres out.

I don't think either team have been dominant if I'm being honest, but the Scarlets have taken their chances well.

We all know how good their back line is.

  15. Postpublished at 34 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

    Chance goes begging for Cardiff.

Dan Thomas has been good in this first half but the flanker gets it wrong in the 22, knocking on as he attempts to pick the ball up.

Probably should have left it to Johan Mulder.

Cardiff will look to put the pressure on at the scrum, as they did in the build-up to their try.

  16. James at 12published at 32 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

A break in play and Cardiff will probably be talking about how to deal with Eddie James.

The Scarlets centre has been superb at 12 in this first half.

Many would like to see him in that jersey for Wales rather than 13, using his bulk to big effect.

  17. Postpublished at 31 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

Eddie James has been a huge presence so far.

Another big carry by the Wales centre puts the Scarlets on the front foot, followed by some tight carries by forwards.

Anscombe absolutely clobbered - legally - after going for a cross-kick that is safely claimed by Mason Grady.

The fly-half can't give Alex Mann that sort of chance to test the ribs.

  18. Postpublished at 29 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

    Cheap back-to-back penalties by Cardiff.

Scarlets go to the 22 and there is a wonderful one-handed take by Sam Lousi at the line-out. A giant right hand from the Tonga forward.

Big chance but the hosts fail to make the most of it after a knock on.

They will feel that the five-point lead should be bigger.

I wasn't a big fan of Alex Mann when he first came on the scene, but I love his tenacity.

He's just got that edge to him.

  20. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Scarlets 12-7 Cardiff

Can't fault Scarlets' ambition but Gareth Anscombe would have been worried after flinging a pass to his left from the 22.

Very close to being picked off, but there was an offside against Cardiff anyway.

There are some afters involving Alex Mann.
