I'm sure it's been a long week for Scotland. Townsend will be delighted to have Hamish Watson back. They need to make up for what was a dreadful performance last week.

  9. 'Wins are what we're here for' - Townsendpublished at 20:02 BST 9 July 2022

    Argentina v Scotland (20:10 BST)

Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend has been talking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off:

"We watched the games this morning - the Northern Hemisphere sides have put a marker down.

"We want to improve our energy at the start of the game. We have to stick together when Argentina have momentum, and play our game.

We believe there will be a real battle around the contact area, and Hamish [Watson] and Rory [Darge] both being fit is great for us.

"Finding a way to win is what you're here for at Test level. This group of individuals, if we get a win today, that will put them in a great place going forward."

Injuries have forced Argentina head coach Michael Cheika to make changes to his staring XV.

Nicolas Sanchez limped off early on last week and is replaced at flyhalf by Santiago Carreras, whilst number eight Pablo Matera hasn't recovered from a blow to the face - Rodrigo Bruni comes into the pack.

The only other alteration is a positional switch for Edinburgh's Emiliano Boffelli - he moves to full-back, and Juan Imhoff starts on the wing.

So much of the talk ahead of this series, especially given the absence of attacking talisman Finn Russell, surrounded Scotland's number 10 jersey, and whether Blair Kinghorn could replicate his impressive flyhalf performances for Edinburgh on the international stage.

The first Test did little to convince the doubters. Kinghorn struggled to get into the game in an attacking sense, hamstrung by a lack of quick ball, and his kicking game and decision-making lacked accuracy.

In the build-up to the second Test, Gregor Townsend has backed the Edinburgh man, pointing to his consistency at club level, and the learning process that players have to go through at international level.

Scotland and Townsend have stood by Kinghorn - now is the time to repay that faith.

    Argentina v Scotland (20:10 BST)

Hamish Watson's welcome return from injury is the main news from a Scotland perspective, but Gregor Townsend makes three further changes in the forwards.

Dave Cherry starts at hooker, Sam Skinner replaces Jonny Gray to partner captain Grant Gilchrist in the second row, and Scotland's bright young thing Rory Darge comes in for Magnus Bradbury at blindside.

In the backs, the only alteration comes at scrum-half, where Ben White is preferred to Ali Price.

What a day of international rugby it's been so far - Ireland, England, and Wales have all bested their Southern Hemisphere opposition.

All that stands in the way of a Northern Hemisphere clean sweep is Michael Cheika's Pumas.

Can Scotland bounce back from last week's disappointment to level the series at 1-1? We'll soon find out...
