Marco Penge on the eighth. Plenty of fairway bunkers to avoid. When you drive 383 yards, you'll avoid them alright.

My word, Rory McIlroy, that's quite the par save. The Northern Irishman rolls one in from 18 feet to stay at 12 under.
Chris Gotterup follows him into the hole for birdie from half that distance to join McIlroy in a share of the lead. Back to how we started the day...

Up to the tenth for Scottie Scheffler, the second-easiest hole this week.
He eagled it on day one, bogeyed the next day, parred yesterday.
It's another birdie today, as his eagle putt pulls up just short. He taps in the putt to go three under for the day.
Going about things calmly and quietly.
Penge -11, M Fitzpatrick -10, Knapp -10 (7)
Not an easy hole for Marco Penge. He pulls his drive left into the rough, and then hits over the green into even chunkier rough.
His chip is fantastic though, and sets up a nice par putt. He tickles it in and smiles in relief.
Matt Fitzpatrick pars, as does Knapp. Keeping up the pressure.

Rory McIlroy has just had to howk out of a fairway bunker on seven and needs to get up and down for his par. That one-shot advantage of his might be in danger...
Wyndham Clark has also found a spot of bother off the tee and has to clump one out of the long stuff.
It's been a fourth straight day of bright blue skies and glorious sunshine on the East Lothian coast.

Image source, ReutersThere's little doubt who the galleries want to win here. The roars that herald every good Rory McIlroy shot and groans the greet the bad ones are more widespread and pronounced than for anyone else out here.
The Northern Irishman pars six to stay one clear, with Chris Gotterup and Wyndham Clark also getting their threes.

Three birdies in four holes for Justin Rose. He's got to nine under with five holes to play and is on course to set a decent clubhouse target.
But can he do even better than that? You'd think he needs at least another three birdies to be in amongst it.

The biggest ovation of the day at the sixth hole is unsurprisingly for the final group.
Rory McIlroy is in the heart of the green, with Wyndham Clark the closest of the trio.

His eagle at the fifth has not ignited a charge for Scottie Scheffler.
The world number one follows it with four pars in a row to reach the turn in 33 blows.
At eight under for the tournament - four back of current leader Rory McIlroy - are Scheffler's title hopes over?

Jake Knapp gets out of the sand but leaves himself with work to do for his par putt. Too much work, as it turns out. He bogeys and drops back.
Matt Fitzpatrick makes the same mistake. They both stumble in front of the crowd.
Marco Penge? No such problems. He sails his birdie putt from the edge of the green to within an inch, and taps in.

Early days and all that, but should this leaderboard log-jam persist and we require a play-off, the fun will start with another go up 18.
If nobody prevails, they'll go back to the tee and do it again. After that, it's over to the atmospheric par-three sixth.

Chris Gotterup and Wyndham Clark's birdie efforts stay out - pars at the fifth feel like bogeys at the minute.
Rory McIlroy's eagle putt had too much pace and lipped out, but he perfectly judges the next effort and moves into the outright lead.

A very lucky break for Matt Fitzpatrick. His tee shot on the grandstand sixth flirts with the bunker, but somehow stays out.
Jake Knapp doesn't have as much luck. It runs up the edge, almost collides with Fitzpatrick's ball, then tumbles into the stand.
Marco Penge is more cautious, and flights it short of the green.

There's a sense of anticipiation out here among the galleries, with the swollen crowds just waiting for this final round to really catch fire.
