    Hartlepool United have appointed former defender Gary Liddle as first team coach to strengthen manager Nicky Featherstone's backroom staff.

    The 39-year-old made 364 senior appearances for Pools over three spells with the club and helped them to promotion from the National League through the play-offs in 2021.

    Liddle, who has also worked in Hartlepool's academy as a lead professional development phase coach, has left his position as manager of Northern Premier League side Whitby Town in order to take on the role.

    "I know this club extremely well and a large part of my adult and football life has been spent here, so it means a great deal to me," Liddle said., external

    "It's been great to be back around the club again through my work in the academy and now I want to help Nicky take the first team to where we believe it should be."

    Hartlepool United have signed forward Tyrese Sinclair from fellow National League side York City on loan for the rest of the season.

    The 24-year-old joined York from Rochdale in 2024 and has made 60 appearances in all competitions for the club.

    He has spent time on loan with Solihull Moors on loan this term, turning out 10 times for the club and scoring three goals.

    "We would all like to wish Ty the very best of luck whilst at Hartlepool," York City said in a statement.

    Hartlepool United have re-signed midfielder Gavan Holohan on a deal until the end of the season.

    The 34-year-old ended his contract with League Two strugglers Crawley Town to return to the Teesside outfit.

    He could feature in Saturday's National League game at home to Aldershot.

    Boss Nicky Featherstone told the club website:, external "He was a real crowd favourite here, and I know the fans will be delighted to welcome him back."

    Sutton United have signed Hartlepool United's Grenada international winger Jermaine Francis for an undisclosed fee.

    The 23-year-old, who has won 15 international caps for the Caribbean nation, is the 10th new player to join the club since Chris Agutter took over as head coach in October.

    Francis, who has also had spells at Braintree and Chelmsford, scored three goals in 22 National League appearances for Hartlepool after joining them last summer.

    "I know a lot about the club, about the manager as well, the players, I know the manager and how he plays and that excites me," he told the Sutton website.

    Hartlepool United have signed goalkeeper Nick Hayes from fellow National League side Southend United in a permanent deal.

    Hayes, 26, played 27 league games for Southend, including at Wembley in the play-off final defeat to Oldham Athletic, after a switch from Barnet in February last year for a second spell with the Shrimpers.

    Hartlepool United have extended the loan of Millwall goalkeeper George Evans until February.

    The 20-year-old has played 12 National League games for Pools this season and kept four clean sheets.
