Arsenal are re-assessing goalkeeper Tommy Setford’s future after a loan move to Las Palmas stalled.

The 20-year-old had looked set to move to Spain on a temporary deal but it is understood talks have slowed and it now remains to be seen whether they can be revived.

Sources indicate that there are other options for Setford ahead of the transfer deadline later today if the move to Spain doesn’t materialise.

Chelsea midfielder Dario Essugo is no longer expected to join Hull City on loan despite recent talks.

That option is now expected to be offer after the Tigers instead signed alternative midfield option Tim Iroegbunam from Everton.

Essugo, a Portugal under-21s international, will likely stay at Chelsea or go to sister club Strasbourg to fill the final international loan spot available to the Stamford Bridge club.

Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has completed a permanent transfer to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

The Spain Under-21 international exits Stamford Bridge after joining from his boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m.

Guiu played three matches during a short-lived loan spell at Sunderland last season and made 29 appearances in total for Chelsea.

Six of his eight goals for the club came during Chelsea's Conference League-winning campaign in 2024-25.

Guiu trained away from the main first-team group this summer amid expectations that he would leave Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea's transfer deadline day is complicated, with the club working through multiple scenarios, many of which revolve around the potential departure of Enzo Fernandez.

Several of those scenarios involve Fernandez joining Manchester City for a fee expected to exceed Chelsea's initial £120m valuation, which would help fund a replacement.

One of Chelsea's internal aims is to emerge from the transfer window able to argue that new manager Xabi Alonso's squad has improved despite losing the Argentina international to a direct rival.

The midfielders known to be under consideration as potential replacements are Monaco's Lamine Camara and Roma's Manu Kone.

They also retain the possibility of keeping Fernandez and it is certain to run late with the use of deal sheets probable.

There are also a number of exits being plotted for fringe players.

Unless there is a very late, and unexpected, development around Marcus Rashford, it feels as if Manchester United's deadline-day business will centre around Joshua Zirkzee and the smaller deals they can do.

Fiorentina wanted to take the Netherlands forward on loan, with an option to buy.

United, ideally, would prefer to sell, or at least get a loan with an obligation.

With no agreement possible, Fiorentina are now looking elsewhere.

However, Juventus are keen on Zirkzee, although a move for the 25-year-old hinges on Canada forward Jonathan David leaving for Atletico Madrid.

Zirkzee's exit might open the door for a left-back or a reinforcement in the forward department, although that too might initially be a loan.

Manchester United fans could be forgiven for not quite knowing what to expect from transfer deadline day.

Most think the club should be trying to sign a left-back as competition for Luke Shaw and make an addition in their striking department.

However, amid the flurry of activity yesterday, United were absent from a large amount of speculation.

Joshua Zirkzee, the most likely senior player to leave, was heavily linked to Serie A duo Fiorentina and Juventus, but it seems those exit doors are closing, with Everton’s Beto joining Fiorentina and Newcastle’s Nick Woltemade set for a medical with Juventus.

An unused substitute in both Premier League games so far, the Netherlands forward will hope to secure a move, which could be the trigger for someone to come into Old Trafford.

There has been lots of interest in youngster Harry Amass, United’s only other orthodox left-back, but the 19-year-old has yet to be given clearance to have a medical.

A number of young players; striker Chido Obi, midfielder Jack Moorhouse, Wales youth international Gabriele Biancheri and Paraguay international Diego Leon were not involved in yesterday’s Premier League 2 victory over Leicester. It will be interesting to see how many of them are still United players by the end of the day.

From Newcastle to Manchester, has there been an update at Old Trafford?

French football journalist Jibril Diop has told BBC Radio Newcastle what Newcastle United fans can expect from Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo:

"They're getting a player who's obviously very young, 21-years-old. His best attribute is probably one-on-one dribbling and yes, he's very technically gifted as well and obviously, he can improve and become the world beater that Newcastle expect him to be at some point."

"When he was in Belgium in the academy, there was a coach who said that he is Eden Hazard without the finishing product, without the finishing touch. So there's always been that comparison with Hazard, but he's not, I'm sorry to say, he's not going to be as good as Hazard.

"He's going to be a very good player but he doesn't have that 'it' factor Hazard had when he was at Lille."

Just a few hours after the unveiling of Nico Gonzalez, Matthias Jaissle made it clear he would continue to push for further deals in the final throes of the window.

Another forward is on the German's wishlist and Newcastle have a longstanding interest in Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, whose creativity and ability to play in a number of positions across the frontline is a huge draw. The 21-year-old also fits the age range Newcastle have targeted this summer.

This would be a complicated deal to do in the final days of the window, but it was a little telling that Lille manager Davide Ancelotti left Fernandez-Pardo out of his squad for the weekend's game against Paris St-Germain and has decided to exclude him from training until the window shuts.

Former defender John Anderson has been praising Newcastle's recruitment despite a turbulent summer:

"I think the recruitment has been good. You can see the line that the club are taking, it's mainly young players who they can improve and some of them haven't been cheap."

"50 million pounds is still a lot of money but I just think that the a hundred million for Tonali, it was too good a deal to turn down. It really was, you know, you cannot afford to turn that type of money down. I liked Tonali when he was here. I thought he was a good player, but a hundred million, just too much for me but good business.

"You bring Gonzalez in for half of that, you know, and you've seen the way that he performed at the weekend, So yeah, up to now, still very, very early days. There's no doubt about that and there's going to be ups and there's going to be downs, you know, there's going to be rocky bits. There's no doubt about that. It's how you handle those rocky situations but up to now nobody can complain."

Juventus have agreed a season-long loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade.

The Italian side had been one of a number of clubs from the continent interested in signing the 24-year-old before Tuesday's deadline.

Woltemade - brought to Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025 - is now set to travel to Turin for a medical after a £3.5m deal was struck. It does not include an option to make it permanent.

Although Woltemade came off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa's goal in Newcastle's 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the club's £69m record signing has only started one of new manager Matthias Jaissle's first three games to date.

Juventus had been in the market for a forward after Jonathan David joined Atletico Madrid on loan.

They had also been talking to Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed move to Fiorentina was not completed.

However, Juventus feel Woltemade is a better fit and, crucially, is also cheaper. In addition, the loan agreement does not include the obligation-to-buy clause Manchester United wanted with Zirkzee.

Leeds United are closing on an an initial loan deal for Nice defender Melvin Bard.

The move will see the Yorkshire club pay an initial 1m euros, with an option to make the deal permanent for a further 5m euros at the end of the season.

Bard, 25, is travelling to Elland Road on transfer deadline day to undergo a medical.

The left-back has made nearly 200 appearances for Nice since joining the French club in 2021.
