French football journalist Jibril Diop has told BBC Radio Newcastle what Newcastle United fans can expect from Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo:

"They're getting a player who's obviously very young, 21-years-old. His best attribute is probably one-on-one dribbling and yes, he's very technically gifted as well and obviously, he can improve and become the world beater that Newcastle expect him to be at some point."

"When he was in Belgium in the academy, there was a coach who said that he is Eden Hazard without the finishing product, without the finishing touch. So there's always been that comparison with Hazard, but he's not, I'm sorry to say, he's not going to be as good as Hazard.

"He's going to be a very good player but he doesn't have that 'it' factor Hazard had when he was at Lille."

Just a few hours after the unveiling of Nico Gonzalez, Matthias Jaissle made it clear he would continue to push for further deals in the final throes of the window.

Another forward is on the German's wishlist and Newcastle have a longstanding interest in Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo, whose creativity and ability to play in a number of positions across the frontline is a huge draw. The 21-year-old also fits the age range Newcastle have targeted this summer.

This would be a complicated deal to do in the final days of the window, but it was a little telling that Lille manager Davide Ancelotti left Fernandez-Pardo out of his squad for the weekend's game against Paris St-Germain and has decided to exclude him from training until the window shuts.

Former defender John Anderson has been praising Newcastle's recruitment despite a turbulent summer:

"I think the recruitment has been good. You can see the line that the club are taking, it's mainly young players who they can improve and some of them haven't been cheap."

"50 million pounds is still a lot of money but I just think that the a hundred million for Tonali, it was too good a deal to turn down. It really was, you know, you cannot afford to turn that type of money down. I liked Tonali when he was here. I thought he was a good player, but a hundred million, just too much for me but good business.

"You bring Gonzalez in for half of that, you know, and you've seen the way that he performed at the weekend, So yeah, up to now, still very, very early days. There's no doubt about that and there's going to be ups and there's going to be downs, you know, there's going to be rocky bits. There's no doubt about that. It's how you handle those rocky situations but up to now nobody can complain."

Juventus have agreed a season-long loan deal for Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade.

The Italian side had been one of a number of clubs from the continent interested in signing the 24-year-old before Tuesday's deadline.

Woltemade - brought to Newcastle from Stuttgart in August 2025 - is now set to travel to Turin for a medical after a £3.5m deal was struck. It does not include an option to make it permanent.

Although Woltemade came off the bench to set up Yoane Wissa's goal in Newcastle's 2-0 win at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, the club's £69m record signing has only started one of new manager Matthias Jaissle's first three games to date.

Juventus had been in the market for a forward after Jonathan David joined Atletico Madrid on loan.

They had also been talking to Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee, whose proposed move to Fiorentina was not completed.

However, Juventus feel Woltemade is a better fit and, crucially, is also cheaper. In addition, the loan agreement does not include the obligation-to-buy clause Manchester United wanted with Zirkzee.

Leeds United are closing on an an initial loan deal for Nice defender Melvin Bard.

The move will see the Yorkshire club pay an initial 1m euros, with an option to make the deal permanent for a further 5m euros at the end of the season.

Bard, 25, is travelling to Elland Road on transfer deadline day to undergo a medical.

The left-back has made nearly 200 appearances for Nice since joining the French club in 2021.

Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic has returned to Celta Vigo on a permanent deal, five-and-a-half years after leaving the La Liga side to join the Reds' academy

Bajcetic made his senior Liverpool debut under Jurgen Klopp as a 17-year-old in August 2022 and made 19 appearances across the 2022-23 season.

He scored his only goal in a 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Boxing Day 2022.

However, injuries limited the now 21-year-old's opportunities and he only made three more appearances for the club - spending time on loan at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas during the 2024-25 campaign.

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Bradley Barcola from PSG yesterday and with Cody Gakpo set to stay put, the Reds aren’t expected to have any further incomings today.

That could all change if there’s an outgoing so it’s one to keep an eye on for sure, given Liverpool’s interest in Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.

Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott’s season-long loan move to Valencia is expected to be confirmed today. Elliott travelled to Spain yesterday.

It's not quite the right-back news that Everton fans may have been hoping for this morning but Nathan Patterson is in talks to join Serie A club Torino on a permanent deal.

Everton have not signed a specialist right-back since Patterson himself joined the club four-and-a-half years ago in a £12m deal from Rangers.

So far in this window they have been linked with Celtic's Alastair Johnston, Sunderland's Trai Hume, Daniel Munoz, who has just joined Nottingham Forest from Crystal Palace, and Fulham's Kenny Tete. The latter could yet join at some point today.

Patterson has been firmly out of favour under both Everton manager David Moyes and predecessor Sean Dyche, making just six Premier League starts over the past two seasons.

Should the move go ahead, it would leave Everton without a specialist right-back as things stand, and just the one left-back in Vitalii Mykolenko after Adam Aznou joined Malaga on loan.

Will Manchester City sign Fernandez before the window shuts? There is a just over 14 hours left of deadline day.

Manchester City have opened talks with Chelsea in their bid to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

In what is set to be one of the key narratives on transfer deadline day, City have set the wheels in motion towards what would be one of the most expensive deals of the summer.

It is understood Chelsea want a minimum of £120m for Fernandez and talks are under way as both clubs negotiate a price.

Fernandez, 25, worked with City manager Enzo Maresca during the Italian's reign at Chelsea.

Maresca is keen to work with the Argentina international again, while Fernandez is open to a move to City.

It now remains to be seen whether the two clubs can agree a price to unlock the deal.

If the clubs can reach an agreement, the deal is expected to be completed rapidly, with personal terms not an issue.
