Inter Milan ended a four-game losing streak in the Champions League with a narrow victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Italian champions, losing finalists in both 2023 and 2025, had tasted defeat in their first two matches this season and only won one of their past eight matches in the competition.

Carlos Augusto's 77th-minute goal was the difference and came after Inter were reduced to 10 men nine minutes earlier. Defender Alessandro Bastoni was dismissed for two yellow cards in the space of three minutes.

Augusto was found by a superb lofted pass by Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was introduced from the bench less than two minutes before the winner, and forced past the on-rushing Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk.

Mkhitaryan had a chance to seal the victory when he was put through one-on-one, but was forced to turn back and found the side-netting with his finish.

Inter visit Feyenoord in their next game on 3 November (20:00), while Shakhtar - who have four points in the league phase - host Sporting at Stamford Bridge on the same evening (17:45).
