Manchester United have failed in their attempts to sign highly-rated midfielder Louis Page from Leicester City.

United's interest in Page was first reported by BBC Sport in August.

However, the first sign of a problem was Page being named in Leicester's starting line-up for their League One fixture against Plymouth on Tuesday.

It was then confirmed by sources the deal will not be concluded and Page will remain a Leicester player.

It is understood the Foxes wanted well in excess of £10m for the 18-year-old, who only made his first team debut in August 2025, but has already carved out an impressive reputation, making 25 appearances in total.

It was anticipated United were willing to loan Page straight back to Leicester, given they have already spent in excess of £150m on international midfielders this summer.

Wimbledon have made their third signing of deadline day.

Jamaica international forward Dujuan Richards has signed on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

And Mansfield have just announced they have re-signed Tottenham midfielder George Abbott on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old made 10 appearances for the Stags last season and scored on his debut for the club against Peterborough.

The problem is that the Sheffield United owners - again, I'm afraid, for the second summer in a row - have done themselves no favours.

They've been the main talking point over the last few weeks given the situation with the former owners. People have not really heard from them at all. Their statements are very dismissive of that.

Fans are wondering what happens next, amid all the talk and the speculation about the former owners andthe statements that they put out, talk of potential points deductions.

In the meantime, they've sold another player. Whether the price is is good or not, if United were in the position where they have to sell Callum O'Hare hours before the deadline closes, what was that bid for [Leicester's] Harry Souttar about?

Was that actually a serious bid? If it was, the money's there and they don't have to sell Callum O'Hare and give themselves a race against the clock to bring somebody else in.

The timing of Callum O'Hare leaving has been horrendous, but that's a by-product of the transfer window itself, not necessarily anything Sheffield United have or haven't done.

I personally think the fees involved are pretty good. It's just the timing of his departure that is going to irritate fans.

We can all understand why that might be given his contributions, both in terms of goals and assists over the course of the the past couple of seasons, and the little time it gives to try to find a replacement, which of course Sheffield United are currently trying to do.

But it follows on from Andre Brooks and Gus Hamer going, so the three most creative players last season are now no longer at the football club.

There's an awful lot of pressure on those that have come in to replace them, which at the moment it doesn't look as though they're going to do.

It's a big loss to lose the three players that have been most likely to get people off their seats at Bramall Lane recently.

It'll be fascinating to see if anybody comes in between now and the end of tonight, but they are three huge holes to fill.

You can't see them being directly replaced, but can Sheffield United get somebody in who can can offer something from an attacking perspective?

Burnley

Burnley have signed defender Igor Julio from Brighton & Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old Brazilian spent last season on loan at West Ham but made just four appearances.

He previously played 37 games for the Seagulls after arriving in 2023 from Italian club Fiorentina, where he was a Coppa Italia and Europa Conference League runner-up.

"I'm very happy to be here. Burnley is a great club, with lots of history and I'm pleased to be a part of it," Julio told the club website, external.

"Once I heard of the interest and spoke to the manager, I wanted to get the move done and I'm ready for this next chapter now in my career."

With all the transfer talk on deadline day, it's easy to forget there is also some actual EFL football going on tonight.

Birmingham City

A big deal to tell you about for Birmingham City.

Liam Millar was scoring the winner for Hull City at Coventry City in the Premier League just three days ago.

But the Canada international has now signed on loan for Blues on deadline day.

The 26-year-old scored five goals and provided eight assists in 53 appearances in all competitions since arriving at the Tigers in 2024.

Bradford City have announced the signing of full-back Corey O’Keeffe from Barnsley for an undisclosed fee.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract and joins with the Bantams sitting in the top six as their match against Cambridge United currently remains goalless.

It has been a busy day at Southampton and now we have another deal confirmed as done at St Mary's.

Saints have signed 20-year-old defender Zach Abbott on loan from Nottingham Forest for the season.

Abbott is a product of the Forest academy where he has been since the age of 11 and has made 12 first team appearances.

Louis Page moves like Cole Palmer. He's tremendous.

I know he's such a talented lad with such a bright future, but why would Leicester risk 90 minutes of football potentially hours before such a big move that's on the cards?

It's complete, absolute madness that the club would take that risk. If he was to move back on a loan deal for the rest of the season, it could be argued that there's no need for him not to play because he'd play the next game anyway.

It doesn't happen very often in football for a player to get sold and then loaned straight back. It is one of those odd situations that we're going to see play out tonight.

Here's another point: what's going through Louis Page's mind? How is he going to be playing?

Is he going to want to go into a 50-50 tackle in the centre of the park? I don't think he will. So we'll all have our eyes on how it affects him and his play.

Wolves

Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan has joined German Bundesliga club Schalke on loan for the rest of the season.

The 30-year-old has scored 22 goals in 119 appearances for Wolves since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021.

Hwang, a South Korean international, played five full seasons in the Premier League for the club but has not featured in the Championship so far in this campaign.

Schalke will have an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

“He's expressed his frustrations, rightly, because the best players want to play all of the time," said Wolves technical director Matt Jackson.

"Hee Chan always been open with his dialogue and has been excellent in training this pre-season, knowing that he wasn't going to be involved here, which is difficult for a player, but he accepted it with good grace."

Nottingham Forest defender Morato has joined side West Ham on a season-long loan, with the option to make the deal permanent.

The 25-year-old reunites with former Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo at the London Stadium.

The Hammers had been interested in Wolves' Ladislav Krejci but the Czechia international does not want to move to another Championship club, with Wolves unwilling to sell to a promotion rival.

The defender was named in the team of the tournament for the 2025-26 Europa League and played in all but two games in the competition as Forest reached the last four.
