  1. One better?published at 19:13 BST

    Arsenal v Lille (20:00 BST)

Arsenal were so close to winning the Champions League last season, falling on penalties to Paris St-Germain in the final.

Can they go one better this time? It's early days but victory tonight would make it two from two in Europe's top flight.

  2. Guimaraes raises level after Brighton woepublished at 19:12 BST

Coming into the season as defending Premier League champions, Arsenal were looking to make a statement signing to make their rivals take notice.

They did not bring in the attacker they wanted but Bruno Guimaraes looks like he could be that key arrival to help Mikel Arteta's men build on their success.

The 28-year-old midfielder is a 'win-now' signing in the peak years of his career.

He responded well to a disappointing performance in the defeat by Brighton, where he made his full league debut.

The Brazil international has now scored two goals that have helped his side to valuable points and justified the decision to spend big on him, even if the Gunners are inundated with top quality options in midfield.

Arteta said: "He wasn't at that level against Brighton, and this is the level for Arsenal. Every week, every game, every minute, every action, you have to be at that level.

"That's what we have to demand. This is what I demand of myself and I'm going to demand the same with the players. If we do that, he will raise the standards and we will be a better team."

This is exactly why Man Utd are where they are with a team like this away, it’s a joke and nothing but a bottom 10 finish in Europe and at home.

  4. High-scoring Barcelonapublished at 19:08 BST

    Galatasaray v Barcelona (20:00 BST)

Barcelona have scored 80 goals in 27 Champions League matches since Hansi Flick took charge, at an average of 2.96 per game. This is the highest goals-per-game ratio for any club with 20+ games under a specific manager in the competition (since 1992-93).

    Expect goals, then.

Looking at the Man Utd lineup, could that be Fernandes up front as a false 9? I'm surprised he hasn't played there more often to be honest, with the likes of Mbuemo, Cunha and Rashford running beyond him from out wide. Let him be a free, creative forward.

  6. Barcelona travel to intimidating RAMS Parkpublished at 19:04 BST

    Galatasaray v Barcelona (20:00 BST)

Barcelona haven't had much fun in the Champions League since they last won it in 2015.

They faced a premature exit at the quarter-final stage to Atletico Madrid last year but summer additions mean they're now better equipped to take on Europe's elite competition.

An opening day 5-1 win over Feyenoord has set them nicely on their way but now they must face Galatasaray in Turkey.

Carrick on a knife-edge? Yes, but its a blade created by the Glazers & Ineos with their chronic mismanagement - nothing changes for the better till they leave the club.

    Arsenal v Lille (20:00 BST)

Arsenal defender Gabriel has said he will would not hesitate to take another penalty in the Champions League if given the opportunity, despite missing the decisive spot-kick in the final against Paris St-Germain last season.

"In a final, anything can happen so I think we did really well. Of course, if I had another penalty I'm going to be there to take it and I think my team-mates helped me a lot after this," said Gabriel.

"Of course I was sad. I don't want to miss a penalty, but I've learned from this and if I have another opportunity I'm there to take it."

Manchester United have two major issues - one in possession and one out of it.

In possession, they are a crossing team, but when your striker is [Bryan] Mbeumo on Saturday, or [Matheus] Cunha previously, and they have left [Benjamin] Sesko on the bench, it bemuses me a little bit.

Out of possession, I don't buy into the players not wanting it enough, but I think the way they press is completely wrong. They leave themselves open, they leave the number six with way too much time on the ball.

You can't leave the best players free to control possession.

  14. Carrick not feeling the pressurepublished at 18:45 BST

Atletico Madrid v Manchester United (20:00 BST)

It has been a poor start to the season for Manchester United with two wins from their eight games so far in all competitions.

They won their Champions League opener but their domestic form has been disappointing with just one win in six Premier League games leaving them 13th in the table.

Asked if he felt under pressure, Michael Carrick said: "It depends how you define pressure. There's our own expectation. We know what we're capable of doing as a team, what we expect as a group and as a football club. That comes from us.

"I certainly don't look outside or elsewhere of what it should look like. I know fine well what it should look like. I've felt it and I've felt the ups and I've felt the downs. I don't feel the pressure from that at all."

  15. Hello old friend...published at 18:42 BST

    Arsenal v Lille (20:00 BST)

Former Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud could take on his former side tonight if he lines up for Ligue 1 side Lille.

The Frenchman made 253 appearances for the Gunners during six seasons with the club, scoring 105 goals and creating 38 assists.

To date, only two players have both scored for and against the Gunners in the Champions League (Tomas Rosicky and Eduardo da Silva).

  17. Arteta's rotationpublished at 18:35 BST

    Arsenal v Lille (20:00 BST)

BBC Sport Arsenal reporter at Emirates Stadium

This does feel like a chance for Mikel Arteta to rotate his squad but history shows that the Gunners boss doesn't usually do that too often.

Arteta prefers to keep the changes to a minimum but with six games this month, a couple of new faces in the starting line-up will be expected.

Eberechi Eze did not get off of the bench at the weekend and Mikel Merino was a late substitute and both players will be hoping for minutes this evening.

    Good evening!

The Champions League returns tonight with Manchester United and Arsenal both in action.

Both sides won their opening fixtures in Europe and will look to make it two wins from two, with Manchester United at Atletico Madrid and Arsenal hosting Lille.

Both games kick off at 20:00 BST.

  19. Hoping for a spark in Spainpublished at 18:30 BST

It doesn't take long in football for optimism and hope to fade.

Michael Carrick was named permanent Manchester United boss in May after an impressive run of form as interim manager that secured Champions League football for this season.

But just a few months on he is now a man under pressure, and is in Spain tonight hoping for a spark after a disappointing start to the season.
