How Alex Cochrane does not have an assist in this game...

The Birmingham left-back sends in a great cross that flashes across goal.

Jay Stansfield, the only player in this match to have had a shot on target, is off for the visitors and on comes the experienced Demarai Gray.

Callum O'Hare, who just took a Blues clearance flush in the face, overhits a pass that could have set Blades striker Patrick Bamford free.

I'm not sure Sheffield United have had a shot this half. In fact, I'm confident they haven't.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 67 mins

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Birmingham

Joe Rothwell is off for the home side and Oli Arblaster is on in their midfield.

Three subs used by the Blades, zero by the visitors.

A second shot on target and it's from the same player.

Japhet Tanganga makes a hash of clearing a ball and Jay Stansfield has a pop from 25 yards plus.

His looping effort is straight at Michael Cooper in the home goal.

  6. 'Both teams are trying to get into crossing areas'published at 18:51 BST 15 August

    Matt Kilgallon
Former Sheff Utd defender on BBC Radio Sheffield

As bad as crossing has been in some areas I get a feeling the first goal will come from a cross because both teams are trying to get into those areas.

    SHOT ON TARGET KLAXON!

Jay Stansfield is played in after some neat passing and Tahith Chong looks to have got back and taken it off him.

But the Curacao international fails to clear and Stansfield picks up the loose ball and leathers a shot at goal that Blades keeper Michael Cooper gets down well to.

Credit to Birmingham's organisation but Sheffield United have been so poor going forward today.

Can the introductions of Tahith Chong and Tyrese Campbell change that?

  9. 'Vicente should have taken the shot'published at 18:46 BST 15 August

    Vicente should have shot.

Japhet Tanganga came across well, but he'll be thinking if he made the right choice there.

Two subs for the home side.

Tahith Chong and Tyrese Campbell are on for Romelle Donovan and Tom Cannon.

Campbell extended his Blades contract this week.

Carlos Vicente is set free down the Blues right.

The Spaniard looks to square it for August Priske but the Blades get back and clear for a corner.

There has only been one 0-0 draw across the entire EFL so far this weekend.

Is this game going to join Northampton's goalless draw with Swindon in ending without a goal?

We're yet to have a shot on target.

  13. 'Bramall Lane is quiet'published at 18:40 BST 15 August

It's quiet around Bramall Lane at the moment. It's like the team need a gee up.

Birmingham had the better of things in the first half and they're having the better of things in the second half too.

Carlos Vicente hits a shot that deflects narrowly wide after the home side fail to clear a corner.

  15. 'A point away here is not a bad result'published at 18:34 BST 15 August

    Sheff Utd 0-0 Birmingham

    Ian Clarkson
Ex-Birmingham captain on BBC Radio WM

I think Chris Davies will look to change things later on, but a point away at Sheffield United on the first day of the season is not a bad result.

Good early pressure here from Blues.

Tomoki Iwata takes a pop from a long way out for the away side.

    Probably wasn't the best option.

  18. 'Sending off changes the game' - Skubalapublished at 18:30 BST 15 August

    FT: Bristol City 0-2 Millwall

    Bristol City

Bristol City manager Michael Skubala told BBC Radio Bristol:

"It was a really tough one to take. I thought we started the game a little bit edgy, and then I thought Dom [Ballard] and Tolly [Tolaj] looked quite good linking up and we started to get moments in the game where we could transition really well, and it felt like the game was tipping into our favour.

"Then the second yellow sending off for me changes the game and then it becomes a very difficult afternoon, especially when you concede within a few minutes of the red card.

"It's not about effort, I think the lads were cramping up, working hard, doing everything they can, but in the end the red card's the thing that's just killed the game."

  19. 'Really disappointed with the goals we conceded'published at 18:29 BST 15 August

    FT: Charlton 2-1 Derby

    Derby County

Derby County head coach John Eustace told BBC Radio Derby:

"I thought the attitude of the boys was fantastic today. We’ve come to a difficult place on the opening day of the season and to go 1-0 up with an excellent goal was perfect.

"Second half, we fought and stayed in there but unfortunately it just wasn’t good enough.

"I’m really disappointed with the two goals we conceded. We didn’t defend the box well enough.

"We should be defending that cross [for the first goal] with no problem at all, and then for the second goal, our rest defence wasn’t right, we got mixed up at the back and it was a bit too easy."

  20. 'Crowd and players won the game, not me'published at 18:27 BST 15 August

    FT: Middlesbrough 2-1 Lincoln

    Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough head coach Kim Hellberg told BBC Radio Tees:

“What a first day of the season, it had everything. They deserved to be up a goal and they were brave in their approach. Our structure wasn’t good enough and that’s on me, 100%.

“The second half was more about the crowd, the place, the players – their aggression to try win, their passion.

"It was all about that. It was nothing to do with tactics, it had nothing to do with me at all.

“I just have to say thanks to the players and the support because everyone was excellent in terms of the second half.

"They just pushed and pushed and pushed, and at the end we won the game fairly and over the 90 minutes we were the better team, there isn’t any question about that.”
