1. 'We can create a bigger atmosphere'published at 14:01 BST 9 October

Liverpool v Man City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Iraola, on what he expects of the atmosphere: "I think always when you play and lead these kind of games the atmosphere is going to be big, especially at Anfield. I think we want to give our supporters reasons to be [excited] - they will be with us - but when they see the team they want to see on the pitch, we can create a bigger atmosphere and we will work for this."

On whether the meeting is a 'must not lose': "No, I think nowadays in the Premier League, it doesn't matter the opposition, it's going to be a tough game. The level has gone so high that everyone can lose games. Every time you face a team that is around you [in the table] you always want to win but in the end it's still very early in the season."

Manchester United manager Michael Carrick on the Manchester City charges: "Very difficult to say in many ways. It's thrown up a lot of questions, some have had answers, some haven't. As it's still ongoing, and we don't how long it's going to go, there's only so much I can say.

"Certainly I've got my own questions about it, it's affected me personally in different ways over a period of time. But as the case is going now I don't know where that stands and how it's going to end up, so we'll just have to wait and see.

"What I will say, the sooner it gets sorted I think for everyone's benefit is essential."

"Noussair Mazraoui came off and took a knock. He's not quite right yet, we'll have to see how he is.

"Carlos Beleba is improving. He's trained a lot.

"Amad Diallo has done a little bit of training. Marcus [Rashford] has done a little bit of training. Kobbie [Mainoo] has done a little bit of training.

Liverpool v Man City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Jeremy Jacquet is available for Sunday after missing a game for France for "protection".

On his start to the season, Iraola added: "He's done really well. Firstly because he is a very good player, obviously you know Jacquet and you see clips of him but until you have him in everyday training you can' really appreciate what he has.

"I am very happy for him personally because to make a debut in the national team, in a team like France who is difficult to have a chance [in], and I think he played really well and he should be happy. But still he has a long way to go."

  5. Jakirovic has 'doubts' over Everton tiepublished at 13:51 BST 9 October

Hull City v Everton (Sun, 14:00 BST)

    Hull City

Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic confirmed Matt Targett will not be available for the Tigers' tie against Everton after the 31-year-old twisted his ankle in training.

However, Hidemasa Morita and Brooke Norton-Cuffy have both returned to training.

Jakirovic has "a few doubts" about the Tigers as some players "lack energy" after returning from the international break.

"It is normal and it is mental. Sometimes it is normal fatigue. It is my responsibility that I have to try to choose the right one [player]," said Jakirovic.

"Of course, we have a lot of space for improvement. We are doing this every day, so we are trying. Sometimes a small mistake at this level is a goal," added Jakirovic.

  6. 'It's massive for everyone involved'published at 13:49 BST 9 October

Liverpool v Man City (Sun, 16:30 BST)

    Liverpool

Andoni Iraola on facing City: "Every game is an exciting game. We are playing at home at Anfield against City who is top of the league right now. They have won all of their games and I think we will go for the game. I think it will be quite an open game and we have to be ready and also use the help from our supporters and I hope we are at the level of the game that's going to be high."

On whether a win would put down a marker to the rest of the Premier League: "I think it's still very early. Whatever happens, we've just played five games but it's true that we would like to face a team like City and show our level and get the win and have a good day. It's massive for everyone involved in these type of games. It's an exciting moment."

On calling on Lewis Koumas to lead the line in their absences, he said: "Koumas has our trust. I don't think it's a big surprise, I always liked the player and he has already shown in important minutes that he has ready to go and we have also other players who can go in those positions."

    Liverpool

Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola, on the Reds' start to the season so far: "It looks very good after you see we had those two draws at the beginning not so good, but I think this run of games we have now between the international breaks, the demand of those games is really high.

"I think we play against the top four in the league, Champions League games, the Carabao Cup game against Chelsea and also very condensed. I think now it's four games in 10 days.

Andoni Iraola's Liverpool side are yet to lose in the Premier League this season and the game on Sunday at what promises to be a ferocious Anfield could be a real chance to kickstart their campaign.

Given the news about Man City, the focus will undoubtedly be on how Anfield will respond when the Enzo Maresca's side take to the pitch for the first time since their guilty verdict, which has now been appealed.

The expectation is that Iraola won't say much about City when he speaks but this could perhaps be a real opportunity for the Liverpool boss to send a message to the fans ahead of Sunday's clash.

City have crumbled before at Anfield and Iraola will be hoping for more of the same when the Manchester side make the trip across the M62 this weekend.

I think they're shocked at the timing of the statement. The owners don't really speak to anyone, they don't go to games. The head of the group also owns Roma, he's been frequently seen there, celebrating with players.

The timing is interesting because Roma have just announced as well a major transformation of their stadium which is going to cost over £100million.

It was almost worried then around the club that would Everton be used to fund a major transformation at Roma, it does seem now that must be the case, as if there's a favourite child.

Everton didn't even know this statement was doing the rounds so that's how much in the dark they were.

  14. Everton owners consider potential salepublished at 13:19 BST 9 October

    Everton

Some news from Everton, where owners The Friedkin Group (TFG) are exploring the sale of the club less than two years after taking control.

The American group completed a takeover of the club in 2024 in a deal believed to be worth in excess of £400m.

In a statement, TFG said after prioritising stability, investment and the opening of Everton's new stadium last year, the time is right "to consider the next chapter".

"The Friedkin Group is exploring new investment options for Everton Football Club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest," TFG said.

"When TFG became custodians of Everton, the club faced significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch. The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the club's future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.

"With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton."

Enzo might say that the titles are not tainted, but they are. If you have gained an unfair advantage, which Manchester City did, then they titles and success for that period are tainted.

  16. Man Utd's ticker banner returning to Old Traffordpublished at 13:05 BST 9 October

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport Manchester United reporter

Manchester United's famous ticker banner will return to the Stretford End at Old Trafford on Saturday - displaying 50 as the years since Manchester City last won a trophy.

The ticker was initially displayed in 2000, at which point it was 24 years since City's last silverware - the 1976 League Cup.

It was increased by one each year until 2011 when City finally ended their trophy drought by beating Stoke City in the FA Cup final.

Stretford End Flags sold the original banner, which contains an odometer, to a collector in Kuwait for £7,000 in 2013 and is trying to get it back.

However, in the meantime, The Red Army fans' group has made its own in response to City being found guilty of multiple Premier League financial rule breaches.

Although City are appealing against the decision, TRA feels their neighbours' success under the ownership of Sheikh Mansour should be scrubbed from the record books.

Saturday's banner will show the number 50 ticking over to 51 given the 2026-27 campaign has already started.

I feel sorry for the genuine Man City fans - not the ones who left rival teams when they came in to the money in the late 2000s. When City receive their punishment the fake fans will leave - hopefully with the current owners - and all those involved.
