Saints often seem to like going a goal down. It’s whether they’re lacking the confidence to strive for a goal back or not that’ll make the difference, especially after spygate.

    Watford 1-0 Southampton

Saints goalkeeper Daniel Peretz has to get his legs in position to deny Othmane Maamma from the left after Hector Kyprianou is blocked out.

Southampton fans are holding their breath.

Though it looks like Marc Bola might have a hamstring issue, which will put a dampener on the home fan's joyous spectacle so far.

Watford are a lot better on the front foot, when they're higher up the pitch and it's causing Southampton problems.

    Watford 1-0 Southampton

Nothing from the free-kick for Watford but Southampton can't take it into their half.

Instead, Watford are feeding the ball into the box and when it's cleared to Marc Bola, he unravels one that flies too high of goal.

Hornets are in the ascendancy here.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 18 mins

    Watford 1-0 Southampton

Watford earn a free-kick in a tasty position after Othmane Maamma draws a foul from Saints' James Bree.

  8. YELLOW CARDSpublished at 14 mins

    Watford 1-0 Southampton

Watford's Mattie Pollock is shown a yellow for a challenge on Leo Scienza who is already taking a beating today it seems.

Saints striker Cyle Larin, unhappy with how his team-mate is being treated by their hosts, is then given a yellow card for dissent.

    Southampton are rattled.

  9. 'Composure from Bravo'published at 13:47 BST 16 August

    Watford 1-0 Southampton

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

Plenty of composure there from Iker Bravo, he's not panicked.

He read that Jack Stephens was going to play the back pass and he's gone and anticipated that.

Technically he's a good player but I love his intelligence as well.

    Well, how about that?!

A long ball gets throttled up pitch and a Southampton player gets a foot to try and find one of his team-mates. Instead it finds Iker Bravo, who drives into goal and takes a shot.

The swarm of Saints players take off any pace off the ball but it still goes over their feet to roll into the net.

What a Championship debut for the 21-year-old!

Saints' Leo Scienza is back up from that challenge, clutching his shoulder.

    Watford under pressure.

Hector Kyprianou is late on Saints' Leo Scienza and given an early caution, but it's Southampton fans who will be concerned.

Scienza appeared to fall onto his shoulder and looks like he's taken some damage.

    Ooooo.

The danger Saints pose is on full display as Leo Scienza slides a ball through to Lewis Dobbin, who then squares off to Cyle Larin in the centre of the box.

Larin can't connect but the offside flag is up anyway. Dangerous.

  15. 'Kyprianou is playing deep'published at 13:39 BST 16 August

Hector Kyprianou is playing very deep, almost as he's one of the centre halves.

  20. 'Watford will look to hit Southampton on counter'published at 13:29 BST 16 August

    Watford v Southampton (13:30 BST)

    Derek Payne
Former Watford midfielder on BBC Three Counties Radio

It'll be interesting to see what Alessio Dionisi does today. I think he'll sit off Southampton then look to hit them on the counter.

People will read lot into Imran Louza not being in the squad but the manager or head coach will need his players on side and produce today.
