The unbeaten Rs have made their strongest start to a campaign since 2013-14, when they also had 10 points at this stage.
They won eight of their opening 10 games on that occasion and went on to finish fourth before going up via the play-offs - that was also the last time they won promotion to the Premier League.
Many would have expected last year's beaten play-off finalists Middlesbrough to have made the faster start, but taking only one point from two away games, at Blackburn and Burnley, means they are three points behind the Rs ahead of this encounter.
Boro won 4-0 at Loftus Road in March in one of the most complete performances of last, or any, Championship season and Kim Hellberg will be hoping for a repeat to establish his side among the front-runners.
WIll Lankshear might be the key to that happening, he has six goals in his first six appearances for Boro.

Earlier this week it was announced former goalkeeper Alan Knight had passed away aged 65 after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024.
Knight spent 22 years playing at Fratton Park, making 801 appearances between 1978 and 2000 – the record for a goalkeeper at a single English club.
Today the club will hold a minute's silence at Fratton Park before the game to pay tribute.

Image source, Getty ImagesCardiff City fans were generally pleased with the start they had to the Championship season. They were unbeaten after three games and were playing eye-catching football.
But their inability to strengthen their squad before the deadline on Tuesday night has infuriated some of the Bluebirds faithful, who feel Brian Barry-Murphy should have been backed with more signings.
Defeat at QPR on Wednesday night did not help matters.
A win today would lift spirits, but questions will remain about the lack of depth in the squad.
Time will tell if Barry-Murphy has the tools at his disposal to keep the Bluebirds away from a relegation battle.

Pompey are the only side of the two with a win this season but have three defeats alongside that sole victory which came away from home at Lincoln City.
Frustration boiled over at Fratton Park on Tuesday night when Pompey were beaten by Derby County, boos ringing out at full time.
The Bluebirds also have three points this season, but without a win they have come with three draws and one defeat.
They are one of two teams still without a victory in the Championship this season (along with Burnley).
Cardiff have only won one of their last 10 league visits to Portsmouth, a 2-0 victory in August 2010 under Dave Jones.

Image source, PA MediaBoth West Ham United and Derby County picked up their first wins of the season in midweek - and now face each other in the league for the first time since 2011.
Wins on the pitch were welcome as both have been distracted by goings-on in the boardroom of late.
On Thursday, Daniel Kretinsky increased his stake in the Hammers to 46%, effectively freezing out former Newcastle director Amanda Staveley, who had hoped to invest in the club.
Derby County have had similar ownership issues to contend with in recent weeks after Saudi Arabia government official Turki Alalshikh abandoned his proposed takeover.
Championship football is complicated enough without this to contend with. Who will be smiling come 5pm?

Millwall made a perfect start but have suffered back-to-back losses, 5-1 at Southampton and 3-0 at home to Wrexham, and have been battered by key injuries and the loss of talisman Femi Azeez to Brighton too.
The Lions have conceded eight goals from just 12 shots on target this season and are hoping to avoid a third straight defeat for the first time since 2024, while they haven't lost three in a row by 3+ goals since 1989 in the top flight.
Bolton have also lost two straight after claiming four points from their first two fixtures, being edged out at home by Lincoln a week ago before a gut-wrenching 3-2 defeat at Sheffield United in midweek.
The omens are good, however, Millwall have only won one of their past 11 meetings with the Trotters, more than eight years ago, and Bolton have taken nine points from their past five visits to The Den, remaining unbeaten.
Baggies and Hornets looking to get back to winning wayspublished at 14:47 BST 5 September

The Baggies currently sit seventh in the Championship table after two league wins before a loss to Middlesbrough and Wednesday night's draw with Charlton.
The Hornets beat Southampton in their opening game before stalemates against Wrexham and West Ham.
In midweek they lost 2-0 away from home to Championship leaders Swansea City.
Watford have lost both of their last two away league games at West Brom, only losing three in a row at the Baggies once before.
After their 3-0 win in April, West Brom are looking for back-to-back league victories over the Hornets for the first time since November 2007.

Image source, PA MediaSheffield United are unbeaten in their start to the season but have already drawn three times - and lost playmaker Callum O'Hare to Wrexham on deadline day.
The Blades did register the first win of their campaign after beating Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday and will be looking to keep up that momentum against a surprisingly stuttering Norwich.
The Canaries have lost as many as three of their first four games of a league season outside of the Premier League for the first time since 2000-01 in the second tier.
Philippe Clement's side were heavily fancied before the start of the season and need to find a way to kick into gear sharpish. Their manager is not worried though.
"What I know from more than 30 years is that if performance after performance is good and you create more than your opponents, you have a much better chance of getting a point," he said.
"This will not last forever."

The Clarets have not won a league game since 11 February at Crystal Palace, a run of 16 games, their worst in nearly 20 years, and pressure is already mounting on new boss Nicky Hayen.
They will hope today is the day as they welcome a Bristol City side who have lost eight straight against the Clarets and have taken just two points from their past seven visits to Turf Moor, last winning there in December 2007.
The omens are also positive, the last time Burnley went winless in their opening four matches of a Championship season, 18 years ago, they ended up winning promotion.
The Robins are going strength to strength after a losing start, however, coming off back-to-back wins and seeking a third for the first time in nearly a year.
Tuesday's win at Preston was their first in five on the road and Michael Skubala's men will be hoping to inflict more woe in Lancashire.

Their first points of the season, at the fifth attempt, and they have come with a derby win in the sunshine. Perfection.
Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray will probably feel frustrated, his squad is obliterated by injuries and unavailability and yet they had plenty of the game, just switched off for the two first-half goals from Callum Lang, a tap-in and a thumping close-range header.
it meant Stan Mills' own-goal early in the second half was a mere consolation and after a positive start to the season, it's been a chastening week for Rovers.
Preston were vastly improved, however, and the only way is up as the climb off the bottom of the table, for now.
