  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 13:38 BST 5 September

    Stoke 4-0 Charlton

We are late getting back up and running in Stoke, where Charlton midfielder Conor Coventry has been handed the hospital pass of coming on at half-time when 4-0 down...

  2. Postpublished at 13:37 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Rovers on the front foot early in the half as Ryoya Morishita gets in behind on the right, only for his low cut-back to be hacked behind.

The corner is scrambled away at the near post, however. Seven gone begging for Rovers now.

  3. Postpublished at 13:36 BST 5 September

    Lincoln 0-1 Southampton

Southampton nearly have the perfect start to the half after a flowing team move.

Leo Scienza finds Cyle Larin at the top of the box who flicks the ball to Kuryu Matsuki but but his curling strike is over the crossbar.

  4. Postpublished at 13:34 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Callum Lang has a fresh white shirt, complete with name and number on as the second half gets under way at Deepdale.

No changes, but I expect we'll see plenty in the next half-hour.

Nathan Jones got it wrong, too many changes in midfield, over-thinking against his former club.

    Mark Erith

Nathan Jones brought Joe Rankin-Costello, Oliver Skipp and Timothy Ouma into his midfield for today.

Welington certainly gave that one the boot…(sorry)

There really is no need to apologise, Seb.

    HT: Stoke 4-0 Charlton

This has been coming for Charlton. Jammed their way to wins so far this season. A welcome reality check.

    Adam, London

Charlton are all over the shop and are in disarray. If they don't buck their ideas up they could be on the end of a hiding.

After a long seven minutes off added time the whistle goes at a frankly stunned Bet365. Home and away fans alike...

    Lincoln 0-1 Southampton

The referee blows for the break.

What a way to end the half and what a way to get your first goal, Welington.

It's been a thoroughly entertaining first half with chances for both sides but at the break it's advantage to the Saints.

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:19 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Preston players celebrate with Callum LangImage source, Shutterstock

Paul Heckingbottom will feel much happier after that 45 minutes.

Preston didn't have it all their own way by any means but two goals, 18 minutes apart, from Callum Lang have given the Lilywhites daylight in their pursuit of their first points of the season.

He tapped home Delano Burgzorg's wayward shot on nine minutes and then powered home Jordan Thompson's free-kick with his head soon after, and though Rovers have bossed much of the half, they have nothing to show for it, bar Ryoya Morishita's poor miss from close range just before the second goal.

Work for Tony Mowbray to do in the next 15 minutes.

  13. INJURY TIMEpublished at 13:18 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Into THREE minutes of added time at Deepdale.

  14. goal

GOAL: Lincoln 0-1 Southamptonpublished at 13:14 BST 5 September

    Welington (43 mins)

Goodness me what a goal that is!

Welington is found in plenty of space from around 30 yards out and drills an effort with his left foot high into the top right-hand corner of the net.

That might be Southampton's goal of the season award sorted already, what an incredible strike.

That is Welington's first goal for the Saints after signing in early 2025.

  15. Postpublished at 13:14 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

One corner brings two for Preston, Jordan Thompson's delivery was wicked.

Stan Mills was bundled over by Sam Morsy in the mixer there, no VAR in the Championship, of course, perhaps fortunately for Morsy and Rovers.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:13 BST 5 September

    Lincoln 0-0 Southampton

There's a booking for Lincoln's Conor McGrandles who breaks up a Saints attack as he pulls Flynn Downes to the floor.

  17. CLOSE!published at 13:12 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Jordan Thompson clips in a lovely free-kick from the edge of the D which glances off the wall and flies past the angle of post and bar.

Delano Burgzorg has been booked for delaying the restart until Callum Lang was back on the field.

It worked to an extent... he's back on before the corner is taken, but it cost his teammate a caution.

Wait, no, Lang is sent back to the dugout by Anthony Backhouse... it will be another change of clothes.

Hope the club shop is open this afternoon.

  18. YELLOW CARDpublished at 13:11 BST 5 September

    Preston 2-0 Blackburn

Rovers giving the ball away too often in their own half and Sam Morsy clatters into Callum Lang 20 yards out trying to make amends.

He goes into the book for a third time this season.

Dangerous free-kick coming up, but not before Lang heads off to get a third shirt of the half.

  19. goal

GOAL: Stoke 4-0 Charltonpublished at 13:11 BST 5 September

    Justin Devenny (40 mins)

Another! And it's a second for debutant Justin Devenny!

A fine move down the right ends up with Eric Bocat on the edge of the box, he lashes in low and hard and Devenny just gets the slightest of touches to divert it in.

  20. CLOSE!published at 13:10 BST 5 September

    Lincoln 0-0 Southampton

Despite the scoreline this has been a very entertaining game so far with chances for both sides.

Leo Scienza is found by James Ward-Prowse out on the left and comes so close to finding the net as he curls one towards the far side of the goal but it's just wide of the post having taken a slight deflection.
