Hearts head coach Wouter Vrancken tells BBC Scotland: "I think Benfica are very experienced and we also saw last week that when you give them some space, some room, then they're clinical.

"We didn't deserve the six goals last week, but again we had to make a good performance to keep the confidence that we had on Sunday.

"I think the performance was excellent today against a side with a lot of millions on the pitch.

"Maybe it's a pity that we drew because we could also win the game, but when you see the overall performance, it's amazing to see.

"That's what we want to see, without taking stupid risks, but trying to play football and trying to use the spaces there are.

"It has to give confidence because we're realistic in the result of course after last week, but the aim was also to show yourselves here and to show who we are and to get confidence out of the performance and I think we succeeded in that."

Last season aside, Rangers have been a pretty good Europa League team across recent campaigns, so to hear their manager say they are now not ready for that level is alarming.

More from Rangers boss Derek McInnes: "It is not great to watch. My team go from some good highs in the first half to being as poor as we were in the second half and you have to say we didn't do enough.

"We huffed and puffed and even when we threw [Emmanuel] Fernandez up, we still don't make the right decisions.

"The club is built for the Champions League and Europa League, but I don't think the team is ready for it and it pains me to say it.

"We need to get more quality, we need to get more confidence into the team.

"That is the job I came into Rangers to do. Rangers finishing third last season, what was served up wasn't good enough.

"We have to get things moving in the right way quickly.

"We should be winning this game. Jagiellonia are a decent team with some good players and I think they're well coached, but Rangers at their best should be winning this.

"We have work to do to get ready for a cup tie against St Mirren on Sunday."

Rangers manager Derek McInnes: "In the four games we've had, there's been some good moments, but it's not been good enough and certainly not a strong enough 90-minute performance.

He describes the lead up to the goal conceded tonight as "madness".

"It is not a lack of bodies," he adds. "It is a lack of intelligence and a lack of doing the right thing.

"Once they equalised, it is so difficult because the players lose confidence, the situation becomes a bit desperate and I thought we just lost all of our composure after that."

Here's more from Rangers boss Derek McInnes as he speaks to the media. He is asked about the team being booed off at the end.

"I think it was justified to be honest," he says. "What we served up in the second half was not good enough.

"It was a bit too open in the first half and obviously [Djeidi] Gassama and [Daisuke] Yokota playing wide, we were asking a lot of them to do that for 90 minutes, but I thought it paid dividends in terms of penalty box action.

"I thought we were good value going in at 1-0 at half-time.

"We took Thelo [Aasgaard] off at half-time because we thought he was not getting involved enough.

"We go a back four to get Gassama and Yokoto more involved higher up the pitch.

"But I have to say it was the lack of ability to put in a 90-minute performance."

Rangers head coach Derek McInnes tells Rangers TV: "Disappointed that we've exited the Europa League. The opportunity is gone and we have to say we haven't done enough over both legs to merit getting through.

"I thought we were good value for 1-0. I thought they had a few scary moments but I just think where we are at the moment, as a team, I thought the goal would help us. We changed the shape to try to get Djeidi Gassama and Daisuke Yokota more involved.

"We stopped playing into our strikers and lost a bit of control of the game. At 1-0 the game is in the balance, we've still got it all to do. We had to step it up to go and get the next goal, and we never did.

"The goal was systematic of the types of goals we've lost throughout pre-season."

Six games, four wins, two draws and zero defeats for Alfred Johansson in the Motherwell dugout.

Two goals conceded, one of which was a penalty.

Making the post-Jens Berthel Askou era look easy peasy.

Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson tells BBC Scotland: "A strong performance for a club like Motherwell to now be in the play-offs.

"Massive, massive credit to the players, they put everything out there. We can't be anything other than pleased with that.

"Ibrahim [Said] has been so good for us so far this season in all the games he's been involved in, except against Falkirk when he maybe didn't manage to show his offensive skills, but tonight he was brilliant.

"I would also like to mention Alex Lowry's second half was also very strong, but you could mention so many guys.

"We were brave and looked better on the ball than we did on Sunday, that was most pleasing. The effort is always there so it's about maintaining the bravery and playing the way we want on the ball and tonight we did it.

"Tonight I'm going to go home and feed my baby so my wife can sleep. We'll come back in tomorrow and recover, then we look forward to the next task which is Sunday.

"It is [a brilliant tie against Freiburg] but we want to do well in the League Cup and we have a massive game on Sunday. It's a massive, massive game, it's a final for us on Sunday and we're going to put all of our focus on that then we can move on to next week."
