Liverpool 1-1 Atletico Madrid
All square at the break in what has been a very decent Champions League game.
Both will fancy this.
Martin Odegaard's excellent start to the season continued as the Arsenal captain came to his side's rescue against Napoli in Naples.
The Gunners were guilty of wasteful finishing and were heading for a frustrating draw in their first game in the Champions League since losing last season's final in agonising fashion.
However, Odegaard had Arsenal's 1,500 travelling fans celebrating after a fine finish from outside the box - the captain's fourth goal in five games, including the Community Shield.
Piero Hincapie dropped to his knees after the full-time whistle and thumped the ground with his hands in relief at the result.
Arsenal won all eight group phase games on their way to last season's final, and they are up and running after a fine win in Italy.
Mikel Arteta's side had missed three great chances to punish last season's Serie A runners-up before Odegaard's winner.
There were 29 passes in the build-up to Arsenal's winner, their second-most on record (since 2003-04) for a Champions League goal (33 for Lucas Perez's second at Basel in December 2016).
Mikel Merino was presented with a glorious chance to mark his first club start since January but the Spain midfielder headed straight at goalkeeper Alex Meret midway through the first half.
Then Bukayo Saka looked set to break the deadlock only to lift his attempt over the bar before Hincapie blazed over from inside the six-yard area.
The Gunners did endure a couple of scares most notably when David Raya spilled a shot from outside the box by Kevin de Bruyne, a Champions League winner with Manchester City in 2023. However, Ben White was quickest to react and clear the ball before the home side could pounce.
Arsenal registered 26 attempts - their highest total in a single match in the Champions League since the start of last season.
What do BBC Sport's player ratings mean?
David Raya: Fortunate to escape unpunished after spilling an attempt by Kevin de Bruyne from outside the box. 6
Piero Hincapie: One of four players making their first starts of the season. Fired over from close range when it seemed easier to score. 6
Gabriel Magalhaes: Dominant performance at the heart of the defence and produced some strong challenges. 7
Ezri Konsa: Worked hard as the Gunners kept another clean sheet. His passing was also decent. 7
Ben White: Eager to burst forward and supply crosses into the box. Did well to react first after Raya spilled a Kevin de Bruyne attempt. 6
Declan Rice: Work rate could not be faulted. 6
Mikel Merino: Should have marked his first Arsenal start since January with a goal but headed straight at the keeper. 6
Eberechi Eze: First start of the season. Early attempt deflected over the bar but was also lucky to escape a caution. 6
Martin Odegaard: Captain to the rescue with an outstanding finish from outside the box as Arsenal looked set for a frustrating night. 8
Bukayo Saka: Busy performance and registered five attempts alone in the first half. Wasted one glorious chance when he lifted it over the bar and had one acrobatic effort straight at the keeper. 6
Viktor Gyokeres: Had just six touches in the first half and struggled to make an impact on his first start of the season. 5

UEFA Champions League
All competitions
All competitions
This will be the fifth meeting between Napoli and Arsenal, and first since the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League quarter-finals. The Gunners have won three of the previous four (L1), keeping a clean sheet in all three victories.
Napoli have only lost three of their 13 home games against English sides in major European competition (W8 D2), although did lost their most recent one, a UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea in January this year (2-3).
Arsenal have only won on one of their last six away trips to face Italian sides in the UEFA Champions League (D1 L4), failing to score in five of those. That one victory did come earlier this year, however, in a 3-1 win at Internazionale in January.
Napoli have lost just two of their last 21 home UEFA Champions League games (W12 D7), though did lose their last 3-2 against Chelsea in January earlier this year. Despite playing 37 UEFA Champions League/European Cup home matches in total, Napoli have never suffered successive defeats on home soil.
Runners-up Arsenal were the only team who didn’t lose a single game in normal time in the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League (W11 D4 L0). Indeed, the Gunners only trailed for 42 minutes and 48 seconds across the previous edition, which was also the fewest of any team.
Despite making it all the way to the 2026 UEFA Champions League final and playing 15 games, Arsenal conceded the fewest goals of any team in the 2025-26 season (7). Their xG faced per game was just 0.9, also the lowest total of any side.
Arsenal’s David Raya has kept a clean sheet in 53% of his starts in the UEFA Champions League (19/36), the highest percentage of any goalkeeper in the competition (min. 25 starts).
Napoli’s Kevin De Bruyne has been directly involved in 12 goals in his last 17 starts against Arsenal across all competitions (8 goals, 4 assists), including five in his most recent three (3 goals, 2 assists).
Since the start of the 2024-25 season, Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhães has won 82 of his 121 duels in the UEFA Champions League. Of the 174 players to contest 100+ duels in the competition in this period, his success rate is the highest of any individual (68%).
Arsenal’s Bruno Guimarães averaged 2.2 defensive line-breaking passes per 90 in the UEFA Champions League last season, more than any other player (min. 300 minutes played). Meanwhile, teammate Martin Ødegaard ranked third by the same criteria (2.1).
