    Everton have agreed a £40m deal to sign USA international Folarin Balogun from Monaco, with a medical set to take place today.

    So what type of player have Everton agreed to sign and how does he compare to Thierno Barry, the Toffees' current first choice striker?

    A one-time Arsenal academy graduate, Balogun joined Monaco from the Gunners for £35m in 2023, going on to score 31 goals in 91 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

    He missed four months of the 2024-25 campaign due to injury but after returning to fitness in April he enjoyed the most prolific season of his career to date in 2025-26, scoring 19 goals in 43 games in all competitions, including five in the Champions League.

    Whereas Barry is more of a target man adept at winning balls in the air, Balogun boasts greater pace and a game built around making runs behind opposition defences.

    At the World Cup earlier this summer, the 25-year-old averaged eight runs in behind per game, ranking him third of all strikers, and scored three goals.

    His goals-per-minute ratio was almost identical to that of Beto, who is leaving Everton for Fiorentina in a £15m deal, in league football last season.

    But Balogun's younger age and Champions League experience suggest his ceiling could be comparatively higher.

    His tally of 19 goals in all competitions last season is at least seven more than either Beto or Barry have managed in a single campaign with a club in an elite European league.

    Ilyas Ansah featured in all but one of Union Berlin's matches last season.

    The 21-year-old striker scored five goals and assisted three times.

    On the international stage, he has played for Germany's under-20s and 21 side.

    Speaking to the club, Ansah said: “I’m very excited. It’s a dream come true for me to play in the Premier League, and for such a big club – it’s really an honour for me.

    “I have heard a lot about the club, the players and the team, and I’m excited to play with the boys and to get to know them.

    “It was an honour and a dream playing in the Bundesliga. Now, I have another dream to play in the Premier League, and I’m going to work hard for it.

    “I’m a very flexible player. I can play almost anywhere up front – on the left side, on the right side, maybe as a 10. I’m definitely a player who always gives his best and leaves it all on the pitch.

    “Taking my man on, beating players, shooting on target and scoring goals – that’s my main goal I want to reach at this club.

    “It’s been a really exciting start to the season – two wins out of two games. Now, it’s time for me to get into the team and be a part of what they are already achieving.”

  6. Kone to Chelsea off

    Chelsea have been linked with Roma midfielder Manu Kone as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez, should the Argentine depart for Manchester City.

    Reports in Italy say that, though the deal was close, Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has asked that Kone remain at the club.

  8. Souza joins Porto on loan

    Spurs have announced that Souza has joined Portuguese Primeira Liga side FC Porto on loan for the rest of the 2026/27 season.

    The full-back joined Tottenham from Brazilian Serie A side Santos in January.

    Souza made his debut off the bench against Manchester United at Old Trafford on 7 February and made four appearances last season.

  10. Moore to spend season with Cologne in Bundesliga

    Tottenham winger Mikey Moore has joined Bundesliga side Cologne on a season-long loan deal.

    The 19-year-old academy graduate made his Premier League debut against Manchester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in May 2024.

    He featured in the team that won the Under-17 and Under-18 Premier League Cup double in 2022-23.

    Moore was also part of Spurs' Europa League-winning campaign during the 2024-25 season.

  15. Arsenal to re-assess goalkeeper Setford’s future

    Arsenal are re-assessing goalkeeper Tommy Setford’s future after a loan move to Las Palmas stalled.

    The 20-year-old had looked set to move to Spain on a temporary deal but it is understood talks have slowed and it now remains to be seen whether they can be revived.

    Sources indicate that there are other options for Setford ahead of the transfer deadline later today if the move to Spain doesn’t materialise.

    Chelsea midfielder Dario Essugo is no longer expected to join Hull City on loan despite recent talks.

    That option is now expected to be offer after the Tigers instead signed alternative midfield option Tim Iroegbunam from Everton.

    Essugo, a Portugal under-21s international, will likely stay at Chelsea or go to sister club Strasbourg to fill the final international loan spot available to the Stamford Bridge club.

  18. Chelsea's Guiu completes move to RB Leipzig

    Chelsea striker Marc Guiu has completed a permanent transfer to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig.

    The Spain Under-21 international exits Stamford Bridge after joining from his boyhood club Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m.

    Guiu played three matches during a short-lived loan spell at Sunderland last season and made 29 appearances in total for Chelsea.

    Six of his eight goals for the club came during Chelsea's Conference League-winning campaign in 2024-25.

    Guiu trained away from the main first-team group this summer amid expectations that he would leave Stamford Bridge.

  20. Chelsea are drafting multiple scenarios

    Chelsea's transfer deadline day is complicated, with the club working through multiple scenarios, many of which revolve around the potential departure of Enzo Fernandez.

    Several of those scenarios involve Fernandez joining Manchester City for a fee expected to exceed Chelsea's initial £120m valuation, which would help fund a replacement.

    One of Chelsea's internal aims is to emerge from the transfer window able to argue that new manager Xabi Alonso's squad has improved despite losing the Argentina international to a direct rival.

    The midfielders known to be under consideration as potential replacements are Monaco's Lamine Camara and Roma's Manu Kone.

    They also retain the possibility of keeping Fernandez and it is certain to run late with the use of deal sheets probable.

    There are also a number of exits being plotted for fringe players.
