There is no hiding away from it. [Manchester United] have been absolutely atrocious.
They have been dominated in every position, and honestly I don't know where Michael Carrick starts because it's been that bad. All over the pitch they have been dreadful.

Harry Maguire prevents a dangerous ball reaching Donyell Malen then sends the big diagonal pass up the pitch but Matheus Cunha runs it out of play.

I cannot see Carrick surviving. He has to leave for his own mental health. The players are solely to blame for this performance.

For the first time they were able to unlock that back five with a run in behind and a pass into the path of Baleba. He did ever so well to get there, and I think once he gets to that byline is he going to cross it, and then all of a sudden you see him pull up with that right hamstring, and it doesn't look good at all.

Carlos Baleba is not going to be able to carry on but Manchester United have not been able to make the substitution yet.

Villa are Barca both have 12 goals in three-and-a-half Champions League games this season.
That also level with Liverpool and only behind PSG's 18, with the holders thumping Villarreal 4-0 this evening, so it would be a surprise if this finished 1-0.
Man Utd 0-2 Roma
What's that saying - when it rains it pours.
Well it is absolutely hammering it down for Manchester United right now.

Oh dear. Things are going from bad, to worse, to even worse for Manchester United.

You are in the Champions League and you are expecting with all the talk and criticism of the players some sort of reaction, and there was nothing, absolutely nothing.
Roma came out and took the ball, they were more aggressive, winning tackles. I haven't seen anyone [at Man Utd] putting a tackle in.
They are also really struggling down Roma's right down side.
You just want see some sort of fight, and yeah, you might be losing the game, your indivual battles but show some passion, show some desire to try and get back in the football game.

Kasper Schmeichel
Former Leicester goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
It's been a really poor half. I go back to it again, the things that they control they just aren't doing. The body language when they lose the ball is terrible. The whole vibe of the crowd, everything is just not going to work the way it's going at the moment and it's been difficult to watch.
I feel for the fans. I think it's been a tough few weeks and it's only getting worse. The thing about the whole situation is I can't really see how it's going to get better because I don't think getting rid of Michael Carrick is going to solve too much.
And for Michael Carrick coming up against a Gian Piero Gasperini team is the last thing you want when your running stats are like Man United's.

I've been a fan of Manchester United since the early 1980s. We've been through fantastic times under Sir Alex, but this team and club are a shadow of that. As much as Carrick needs to shoulder the blame, so do the players and senior club figures.

Manchester United's fans made their feelings known in no uncertain manner at half-time.
They protested twice before that, releasing hundreds of balloons when the teams came out of the tunnel.
Then there were dozens of yellow tennis balls thrown onto the pitch in a further show of discontent against the ownership.
Green and gold are the colours of Newton Heath, the club United became and have been the colours of the anti-Glazer protests since the American family bought the club in 2005.
As it stands, Manchester United are heading towards a 10th game without a win in all competitions for the first time in a full season since 1977-78.

Manchester United's torrid first half:
HT: Atletico 0-0 Bayern; Villarreal 0-4 Paris St-Germain; Feyenoord 0-2 Inter; LASK 3-0 Slovan; Bodo/Glimt 0-0 Lille
Image source, Getty ImagesChances at both ends but it's goalless at half-time between Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich at the Metropolitano.
Not a result that really helps either team.
Paris St-Germain are four up at Villarreal with all four goals coming in the first 17 minutes. The Spanish side can consider themselves fortunate that it isn't more.
Inter Milan are halfway to their second win of this league phase, leading Feyenoord 2-0 at the break in the Netherlands.
Robert Ljubicic has added a third for LASK and they look set to hand Slovan Bratislava a fourth straight loss in the competition, while there has been no goals as yet in the game between Bodo/Glimt and Lille.

I think Unai Emery will be really pleased with his team's performance at half-time as they've shown they can hurt Barcelona.
But also cut out the mistakes at the back end of the pitch. If you cut them out you stand a chance of getting something from the game.
Barcelona captain Raphinha has now scored 20 goals for Barca and Brazil this season
Barcelona ended Aston Villa's perfect Champions League start with an enthralling win at the Spotify Nou Camp.
Lamine Yamal and Raphinha's double eventually eased the five-time European champions to victory after the Premier League side gave them a first-half scare.
Matty Cash, Victor Lindelof and Johan Manzambi had chances, but Villa were left to contemplate what might have been.
They had gifted Barca, who leapfrogged the visitors into second place in the league phase table, a seventh-minute lead when Joao Gomes' panicked ball across the box allowed Lamine Yamal to curl in his 13th goal in 15 games.
Yet Villa refused to sit back and played their role in an open and engrossing encounter which almost delivered a leveller.
Cash and Lindelof had shots deflected behind, while Manzambi scuffed wide before testing home keeper Joan Garcia.
Villa tried to exploit a Barca side without a Champions League clean sheet in 18 games, but were left to rue their misses when Raphinha's low shot clipped Pau Torres to wrong-foot keeper Zion Suzuki and make it 2-0 seven minutes after the break.
The former Leeds United forward then added a classy close-range third in the 64th minute after excellent work and a glorious pass from Joao Cancelo on the left, before Suzuki denied Anthony Gordon a fourth.
Leon Goretzka's header glanced the post as Villa pushed for a consolation, but Barca finally earned their first European shutout since April 2025.
Emery takes positives - but Villa 'have work to do' to reach Barca level
Zion Suzuki: Had no chance with Lamine Yamal's opener but played his part in the mess which led to the crucial opening goal. Saved from Anthony Gordon but wrong-footed by Raphinha's strike and no chance with the third. 6
Matty Cash: A arrowed volley almost brought Villa level soon after Lamine Yamal's goal but his attacking instincts were restricted. 6
Pau Torres: One great last-ditch tackle denied Raphinha, but was unlucky when the former Leeds forward's shot clipped his heel and rolled in. 6
Victor Lindelof: A good early block to stop Gordon's shot but he was unable to stop Barca moving further clear in the second half. 6
Ian Maatsen: Handed an early booking for a foul on Lamine Yamal but walked the tightrope well against the young superstar. 6
Joao Gomes: Gifted the ball to Lamine Yamal with an awful mistake for the opener but was close to finding a quick leveller. 5
Boubacar Kamara: A difficult game with Barcelona's ability in the middle and he was not able to dictate as he would like. 6
John McGinn: The skipper was left trailing by Joao Cancelo for Barcelona's third goal before being replaced soon after. 6
Emi Buendia: Booked for a foul on Fermin Lopez and was eventually taken off as he ran the risk of a second caution. 5
Johan Manzambi: Scuffed an effort wide and tested Joan Garcia but his influence waned in the second half before he was replaced. 6
Nicolas Jackson: Carried a threat in the first half and maybe could have tapped in after Leon Goretzka's header hit the post. Booked for a scuffle with Pau Cubarsi. 6
Subs:
Ibrahim Mbaye (on 62, Buendia) Drew a save from Joan Garcia but lacked end product. 5
Leon Goretzka (on 62, Manzambi) His header kissed the post as Villa went close in the second half. 6
Ross Barkley (on 62, Joao Gomes): Shot over late on as Villa looked for a consolation. 5
Alysson (on 77, McGinn)
Tammy Abraham (on 77, Jackson)
Subs not used: Bizot, Wright, Harwood-Bellis, Mings, Garnacho, Hemmings.
