There are four Premier League fixtures today, starting with Liverpool v Nottingham Forest at 12:30 BST, with Coventry v Hull and Bournemouth v Everton at 15:00, followed by Tottenham v Newcastle at 17:30.

Virgil van Dijk is the oldest Liverpool player (35 years, 52 days) to start their first two Premier League games in a season since a 36-year-old Gary McAllister in the 2001-02 season.

And his centre-back partner Jeremy Jacquet is the youngest Liverpool player (21 years, 47 days) to start their first two Premier League matches in a season since a 20-year-old Trent Alexander-Arnold in 2019-20.

Nottingham Forest have won their opening away game in just one of the last eight league seasons, at Southampton in 2024-25.

However they won three of their final four Premier League games on the road last term.

I know, I know - commenting on a Premier League line-up not having any English players is very 2007.

This is the 16th time in the last two seasons that Liverpool have named a Premier League starting XI without an Englishman - only Sunderland have done so more often (23).

"Rayan Cherki refuses to hide his emotions, an open book for all to see and hear in times of joy and disappointment," he says.

"Cherki made his impact under Guardiola last season, although there was always a feeling the mercurial signing from Lyon for a bargain £30m could produce more. He made 33 Premier League appearances - but 14 of those were as a substitute.

Last night Manchester City won 4-1 at Crystal Palace with two goals each from Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki.

New season and new manager but facts are facts...

Liverpool are on their longest winless run in the Premier League since September 2012 - failing to win in their last five, including at St James' Park last week.

Víctor Munoz is the first Spaniard to start a Premier League match for Liverpool since Stefan Bajcetic in March 2023 against Bournemouth.

The last Spaniard to score a Premier League goal for the Reds at Anfield was Thiago Alcantara against Southampton in November 2021.

This will be Andoni Iraola's first Anfield game as Liverpool boss in a competitive game.

The Basque, formerly of Bournemouth, replaced Arne Slot this summer.

"It is going to be emotional. It is a special place," he said.

"I had to fight a lot to arrive to this place and I hope everything goes well and I can enjoy the game."

He added that he was not surprised by all the attention that came from last weekend's 2-2 draw with Newcastle on the opening day.

"Everything is going to be magnified, for the good and the bad," he said.

"I think I am starting to understand everything that happens. It is a matter of myself and my coaching staff, the players, how we can maximise the potential."

Liverpool discovered their Champions League opponents yesterday.

The draw doesn't feel as interesting under the new format, does it? Unless you are a fan who attends the away games perhaps.

Anyway the Reds will host Atletico Madrid, Porto, Villarreal and Lens while visiting Inter Milan, Club Brugge, Fenerbahce and LASK.

A Nottingham Forest player scored against the European champions last night.

Forest loaned winger Dilane Bakwa, 24, to Lille during the week - and he netted a fine curling effort on his debut in the 2-2 draw with Paris St-Germain in Ligue 1.

The forward did not score in 24 appearances for Forest last season after a £30m move from Strasbourg.

Liverpool have won their first home game in 12 of the last 13 Premier League seasons, drawing the other 1-1 with Crystal Palace in 2022-23.

The Reds haven’t lost their first Anfield match of a league campaign since 2003-04 (2-1 to Chelsea), remaining unbeaten in 22 since (W17 D5).

Forest boss Oliver Glasner says their formation is not set in stone and could change depending how their squad looks like after the transfer window.

Glasner usually likes to play with wing-backs, and Forest have reportedly made a bid for his ex-Crystal Palace right wing-back Daniel Munoz.

"I always want to have our best players on the pitch, so I'm not strictly saying we have to play in a 3-4-3," Glasner said.

"If I believe we need more attacking players on the pitch, then we will change the system immediately - then some players will have different roles."

Former Nottingham Forest defender Brian Laws has compared new record signing Liam Delap to current veteran striker Chris Wood.

Speaking on BBC Radio Nottingham's Shut Up And Show More Football podcast, Laws said: "We've all been banging the drum about signing a striker as a priority. We can't just rely on Chris Wood and Igor Jesus.

"It was important to bring in someone who's got experience within the Premier League. He's a young player. I do like him in lots of ways.

"He's almost like a young Chris Wood where he will cause havoc and won't give centre-halves a rest. He will chase things down that he maybe shouldn't get, but the most important thing is I want to see him in the box. I want to see him attack the ball."
