  1. dropped catch

    Eng 58-2published at 13 overs

    Wow! Muhammad Abbas is furious.

It's because Joe Root has edged the ball in the air right between first and second slip. Neither of them go for it and Abbas tells them exactly what he thinks of it.

Razaullah is going to have to come back into the attack to try and crack open the game for them. It's gone a bit quiet for them and that wicket for Joe Root would've been big.

I think that'll be something we'll be looking back at later.

  4. drinks break

    Drinks - Eng 51-2published at 12 overs

Need 79 more runs to win

As drinks come onto the field, WinViz now has England at 96%. The last option Pakistan have open to them is the spin of Saim Ayub.

Emilio Gay has a long wait before he gets another chance - assuming he's selected for South Africa - but he has done enough to get a seat on the plane.

  6. Eng 49-2published at 11.1 overs

Ah, this is the most emphatic shot of the day. Joe Root through the covers.

Mohammad Ali has overstepped again too.

86 is not a huge amount left and there's not a great deal out there. I don't think it'll be comfortable because English cricket never is but I expect the team to get the job done.

  8. Eng 44-2published at 11 overs

Need 86 more runs to win

That could knock the life out of Pakistan. This is where you need your keeper and close fielders to keep spirits high.

Babar is back on the field.

    Sir Alastair Cook
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

It is a funny one because when the umpire calls no-balls they let you know when you're close but now the decision is taken out of their hands I reckon they don't speak anymore. They used to let you know when you were close to overstepping.

  10. Eng 40-2published at 10 overs

    Target 130

The pictures tell you everything. Saim Ayub looks aghast with his hands on his head. Mohammad Ali is having to drag himself back to his mark.

He can't say he hasn't been warned. That is his 17th no-ball of the series.

Joe Root drives the next delivery for four too.

The celebrations are short lived for Pakistan. It's a no-ball.

Joe Root thought he was the unlucky one as it hit his stumps but Mohammad Ali has overstepped.

When facing good length deliveries in this series Jordan Cox has played the ball 40cm deeper than the rest of the England batting lineup - only Paul Collingwood and Gary Ballance have deeper interception points on average among England batters historically.

  17. Not outpublished at 11:53 BST 12 September

You can see why Pakistan did it but it was never really going to be out. Joe Root can continue.

Pakistan have to review this, really. The keeper is going down leg side though.

  19. Pakistan reviewpublished at 11:53 BST 12 September

    Now then.

Joe Root has been hit on the pad. I don't think this is out but Pakistan feel like they have to risk it.

Root is smiling. He's not worried.

In Nigel’s defence (11:40), whilst I think Gay has earned the right to a larger sample size, he is one of several openers England has tried that had averaged fewer than Crawley (Sibley, Lees, Lyth, Robson, Hameed etc) at a considerably lower strike-rate.
