  1. Ind 184-4published at 34 overs

    Target 259

    Four singles.

Sam Curran makes a hearty lbw appeal against Axar Patel. Clearly pitching outside leg.

Axar picks a gap at mid-wicket and comes back for two.

Adil Rashid hasn't bowled great but he does have some magic balls in him. Hopefully he can get a few out. That's just what England need.

He's not been able to turn the screw like he usually does.

  3. Ind 178-4published at 33 overs

    Target 259

Washington Sundar turns Adil Rashid down through fine leg for four - the first boundary for nearly six overs.

He and Axar Patel run another five around that, including a well-judged two off the final delivery.

    81 needed from 17 overs.

Harry Brook should not be the Test captain. He needs to mature into a more responsible batter. One of the great talents in cricket, but a lack of discipline in New Zealand should rule him out for a long time.

I've been impressed with Harry Brook's captaincy.

I think people have been umming and arring about him but he's done alright. He's had some good bowling chances, maybe a few wonky field placings here and there. But, I'm impressed.

  6. Ind 169-4published at 32 overs

    Target 259

Washington Sundar has a long, hard inspection of the toe end of his bat after mis-timing a Sam Curran slower ball.

Two balls later he's completely bamboozled by another slow one, swinging past it. Curran has his hands on his head.

The ball hasn't spun as much as I thought it would.

  8. Ind 166-4published at 31 overs

    Target 259

Singles and dots alternate for five balls. Then Axar Patel ruins it (for me at least) with a single off the last ball.

India have played nicely. They've been calm and not allowed the pressure to build up.

  10. Ind 162-4published at 30 overs

    Target 259

Washington Sundar plays up to mid-on and darts through for a single, hustling with his bat in two hands.

A slip is installed for the final ball of the over. Axar Patel defends to mid-on.

Sam Curran will bowl the first over after drinks. He has 1-32 from his five overs.

The game is still very much alive, it's just this little flurry of wickets that gives England some hope.

While the players have a breather, here are the highlights of Liam Dawson's maiden ODI half-century.

He put on 121 (134) with Joe Root to rescue England from 107-6.

It's an interesting shuffling, juggling challenge for Harry Brook.

He's got a few options but it is the seamers who have taken the wickets.

Five dots, one single. Happy with that, Vic?

I'm not sure that I'd like to be batting with Washington Sundar at the moment.

We've got Will Jacks, two fresh batsmen. England need to create a few dot balls here, just build up some pressure.

  17. Ind 160-4published at 28 overs

    Target 259

Axar Patel is the new batter in. One thing he'll have to watch out for is Washington Sundar's running between the wickets.

He ran out Shreyas Iyer in the previous over and began the 28th with another sketchy single. 99 runs off 22 overs - still too early for India to panic. No need to take risks.

England are not out of it, not favourites but a few wickets here, new batsmen coming in. There's still plenty of time. There has been a momentum swing.

The ploy of bringing Tongue into the attack is working.
