  1. Balls don't last long at Old Traffordpublished at 10:59 BST 24 September

    Lancs v Durham 16-1

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

There's a lot going on here. Four overs have gone and we are onto ball three!

The first lasted three deliveries. The second lasted three and a half overs, but did include a wicket, Alex Lees was caught behind off Tom Bailey for three.

Durham are now 16-1, having chosen to bat against Lancashire. They also need one more point for their highest total in a season, which would break their record from 2013.

Unfortunately Matty Potts misses this one for the visitors, which means he also misses out on the chance to be the highest wicket-taker in the country. He finishes on 60.

Warwickshire get their first bonus point of the match inside eight overs.

Stevie Eskinazi finds the fielder at backward point, giving Chris Woakes his second wicket.

Only 13 more points required to seal the County Championship title...

    Somerset v Surrey 19-0

Lewis Gregory beats the bat of Dom Sibley for the first time this morning.

It's been a fairly quiet start in Taunton on what appears to be a batting pitch.

Sibley then finds his second four of the morning with the final ball of Gregory's over.

A bowling change already for Somerset who haven't really been able to get anything going so far, with the spin of Jack Leach being introduced.

Can he make the difference as he so often has in the past?

    Kent v Glos 5-1

Who'd be a batter on a morning like this?

Three overs, three maidens so far from Matt Quinn, who beats Tommy Boorman's groping defensive bat in the latest.

Lots of seam movement for the Kent paceman.

    Miller lbw b Higgins 10 (Middx v Northants 24-2)

Northamptonshire lose their second wicket inside the first half-hour!

This is a really important period already for the visitors chasing promotion as Middlesex's tails are firmly up.

Ryan Higgins gets one to nip back in and strikes Gus Miller on the front pad.

    Nottinghamshire 9-0 v Yorkshire

First boundary of the day comes in the sixth over for Nottinghamshire.

Ben Cliff strays too close to the pads of Haseeb Hameed who plays aerially through midwicket for four.

  8. Postpublished at 10:51 BST 24 September

    Middx v Northants 15-1

Ryan Higgins is up and he thinks he's got his first of the day!

The ball is close to edge of Ricardo Vasconcelos' bat as the ball goes through to the gloves of Harry Duke.

However, the umpire is unmoved, not out. Two deliveries later, Vasconcelos throws his bat at one and finds an outside edge for four.

  9. Postpublished at 10:50 BST 24 September

    Hampshire v Sussex 5-0

A painful moment for Sussex opener Tom Haines as he smacks a ball from Kyle Abbott straight onto the inside of his shin or ankle and hops away in pain.

He'll need some treatment. A sore one.

The Warks bowling since the return of the County Championship has been incredible! YOU BEARS!

    Luke, Birmingham

I've only been a Warwickshire fan since 2022 so I've never seen them win the Championship. Genuinely excited, especially with two early wickets!

    Matt, Birmingham

You Bears! Looking forward to a Warwickshire victory.

    Claire, Edinburgh

With Leicester 11-2, it means Warwickshire have taken their last 62 wickets for 617 runs. It will be the reason they will lift the trophy, if they do.

    Nottinghamshire 3-0 v Yorkshire

Good tight bowling from Yorkshire who are not giving anything away at the start of day one.

Ben Cliff angles one away from right-hander Haseeb Hameed who draws his bat in at the right time.

Nottinghamshire 3-0 off their first four overs.

    Warks v Leics 11-2

That early wicket for Ethan Bamber has put him one behind Division One's leading wicket-taker this season, Hampshire's Kyle Abbott.

Warwickshire couldn't have asked for a better start.

In case you missed it earlier, there was confirmation that Leicestershire plan to appeal against the points deduction imposed upon them for breaching pitch regulations in their recent win against Glamorgan - read more details here.

  14. Division Two updatepublished at 10:45 BST 24 September

Emilio Gay was listed to bat at three for Durham against Lancashire but he's already out in the middle at Old Trafford. Alex Lees was the man to go, caught behind off Tom Bailey for three.

Dan Lategan has made a flying start for Worcestershire against Derbyshire. The home side are 20-0 after three overs and Lategan already has four boundaries in his 17 not out.

  15. Postpublished at 10:44 BST 24 September

    Middx v Northants 7-1

An absolute beaut of a delivery from Ryan Higgins.

His fifth delivery of the over shapes away from the edge of the bat of Ricardo Vasconcelos who is beaten all ends up.

    Middlesex have started promisingly.

  16. Postpublished at 10:41 BST 24 September

    Glamorgan 0-0 Essex

A tidy start in Cardiff for Essex fast bowlers Sam Cook and Jack Auld who both begin with a maiden.

Zain ul Hassan and Asa Tribe yet to get off the mark for the hosts.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 10:41 BST 24 September

    Phillips c Northeast b Milnes 1 (Kent v Glos 4-1)

    Early breakthrough at Canterbury.

Matt Milnes is Kent's leading wicket-taker this season and strikes in his second over as Joe Phillips edges to slip.

Poor shot - he flashed at the ball well away from his body.

Tommy Boorman comes out at number three.

  18. Postpublished at 10:40 BST 24 September

    Kent v Glos 3-0

Maiden over from Matt Quinn, who beats Joe Phillips with a big leg-cutter.

The Gloucestershire opener is then caught in two minds about whether to leave or not and the ball deflects down off the bat and fortunately for him does not carry to the slips.

  19. Postpublished at 10:39 BST 24 September

    Somerset v Surrey 12-0

No early wicket as yet in Taunton where Surrey openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley have started confidently.

Both have found the boundary rope in the opening two overs.

Somerset just have to do what is within their control and win this game to maintain their maiden title hopes, and then hope for some help elsewhere.

  20. wicket

    Patel lbw b Woakes 5 (Warks v Leics 5-2)

Two wickets in the first two overs for Warwickshire, who have made a sensational start at Edgbaston.

Rishi Patel opts to leave a ball from Chris Woakes that thunders into his pad and the umpire's finger goes up.
