Essex opener Dean Elgar has lasted longer than his team-mates but now departs and it's another edge to the slips that ends his time at the crease.

Olly Hannon-Dalby grabs his first wicket in his second over and it's safe hands slip catcher Rob Yates who snaffles another one.

Elgar made 12 from 42 balls - which is almost as many balls as his team-mates have faced combined - but will be a spectator for the rest of this Essex innings.

    Sussex v Notts 49-1

Excellent over by Sussex's Tom Price to Freddie McCann and the wicket of Notts opener Haseeb Hameed has also slowed down the run-rate.

    Kent v Lancashire 38-0

Credit where it's due to Lancashire so far. They've not enjoyed their most memorable season in 2026 and they were put into bat by promotion-chasing Kent.

But the visitors have made it through the first hour with relative ease with Michael Jones 20* and Keaton Jennings 11*.

Good ball from Auqib Nabi and Asa Tribe edges to second slip where Adam Thomas takes a good low catch, moving to his left.

Tribe and Jack Hope-Bell were just three runs short of a 50 partnership but now the latter has been joined by skipper Kiran Carlson.

  5. Division Two updatepublished at 11:34 BST 15 September

Ben McKinney clips Matthew Waite for four as he an Alex Lees post a 50 partnership for promoted Durham. They are 52-0 in the 16th over at the Riverside - with Lees already 40 not out.

Ben Geddes drives Daz Ahmed to the cover boundary and Middlesex are 41-2 in the 14th over against Gloucestershire in Bristol.

    Yorkshire 50-2 v Somerset

Jake Ball is in the attack for the first time and James Wharton pushes defensively into the off side. Maiden over.

  8. Postpublished at 11:31 BST 15 September

    Surrey v Glamorgan 48-1

He made a duck last week in his maiden first-class innings, but Jack Hope-Bell is looking good this morning against the 2022-2024 champions.

Hope-Bell ends Auqib Nabi's first over by clipping him to mid-wicket for four, and the next - by Tom Lawes - starts with Asa Tribe dabbing down to the third man boundary

    Hameed c Tear b Price 31 (Sussex v Notts 47-1)

Breakthrough for Sussex but Haseeb Hameed will be so disappointed with himself here.

The Notts skipper flashes at one that's short and wide of off stump from Tom Price but edges through to Charlie Tear at first slip, who takes a fairly simple catch.

Hameed looked in good nick and Notts were going along without too much trouble until that moment.

  12. Postpublished at 11:27 BST 15 September

    Kent v Lancashire 30-0

A strong over for Lancashire with eight from it off Matt Milnes and it ends with four for Michael Jones, flicking through mid-wicket.

    Critchley c Mousley b Bamber 10 (Essex 29-4 v Warwickshire)

Well that Sam Hain drop doesn't count for too much as Essex promptly lose their fourth wicket just a few balls later.

Ethan Bamber is doing the business for his side - he's on 3-3 from 7 overs. Outstanding opening bowling.

Matt Critchley had made a decent start, cracking Chris Woakes for a couple of boundaries but he feels for one outside off stump and edges it to third slip for one of the easiest catches Dan Mousley will ever take.

Critchley is furious but just about stops himself punching his own bat on the way off.

    Organ c Grumbs b Holland 27 - Leicestershire v Hampshire 42-5

Disaster for Hampshire. Triumph for Ian Holland, who has four out of the five wickets to fall.

His latest victim is Felix Organ - who fences outside off to Sheridon Gumbs at third slip.

    Ben Mayes to bat next.

  15. Near thing at the Ovalpublished at 11:26 BST 15 September

    Surrey v Glamorgan 37-1

Asa Tribe dabs the ball down and calls for a single.

Jack Hope-Bell is slow to respond and if Ollie Pope's throw from point had hit the stumps he'd have been gone.

Undaunted, Hope-Bell drives Auqib Nabi's second ball through the covers for four.

  16. Postpublished at 11:26 BST 15 September

    Leicestershire v Hampshire 42-4

A bit of respite for Hampshire, who pick up seven runs from the first Ben Green over.

A leg side half volley is dismissively lifted over square leg by the other Ben (Brown) for four.

  17. Postpublished at 11:25 BST 15 September

    Sussex v Notts 46-0

Lovely shot, Haseeb Hameed and it's one he's been executing very well all morning so far.

Soft hands and he guides it down to third man for two off Tom Price. Notts are sneaking up towards the 50 mark.

  18. 'Into the bread basket and out again'published at 11:25 BST 15 September

    Essex 26-3 v Warwickshire

    Kit Harris
    BBC Sport commentator

I think it carried. Sam Hain under a wide-brimmed hat looking very rueful.

It went right into the bread basket and out again.

Elgar was standing well outside off stump and it was very casual. That really would have been disastrous for Essex.

I am not a fan of 1/3 of Championship in September but – 1 result and 8 draws in August, 16 results and 2 draws so far this month speaks for itself.

  20. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 11:24 BST 15 September

    Essex 26-3 v Warwickshire

Edged to first slip... but Sam Hain can't hold on.

A chance for the Bears to take a fourth wicket inside the opening hour goes begging but they are still very much on top.

Dean Elgar the man to survive Olly Hannon-Dalby's ball and Essex really need him to stay in.
