US ambassador praises UK for 'moving forward with Jackdaw'published at 11:50 BST
Image source, Getty ImagesWe're now getting some reaction from the US, as Warren Stephens, the American ambassador to the UK says he welcomes the UK "moving forward" with Jackdaw.
He says: “Energy security means taking charge of your own energy."
President Donald Trump previously urged the UK to increase drilling in the North Sea, hailing Aberdeen as the "oil capital of Europe", adding that compared to Norway, "Scotland has a better part of the North Sea".
Stephens says he hopes the British government will now approve drilling at Rosebank, a contentious oil field near Shetland that was barred from production by a judge last year subject to further environmental assessments.
“Developing Britain’s own North Sea resources supports UK businesses and its people. A stronger, more secure UK energy sector benefits us all,” Stephens adds.
