Barrow boss Steve McCormack slams manner of defeat

Barrow Raiders boss Steve McCormack said his side were lucky to avoid a heavier defeat after losing 35-6 to Dewsbury in the Championship.

Raiders, who now lie fourth in the table, were 18-0 down by half-time and failed to threaten Dewsbury's lead despite James Coyle's second-half try.

McCormack told BBC Cumbria: "Our inability to hold the ball set the tone for the game.

"We were lucky to come away with just that scoreline."

Bryn Powell scored twice for Dewsbury, while James Craven, Pat Walker, Luke Stenchion and Rob Spicer completed the rout.

And although Jamie Rooney converted Coyle's second-half try, it made little impact to McCormack's side.

"It's happened too many times this season but we've just got to pick ourselves up.

"We're going to lose games but it's the manner that we lose them. We're a good side on our day but we had too many little efforts missing.

"All we did in the first half was defend. Dewsbury just completed and were well worthy of the win."
