Adams' Port Vale have now gone five games unbeaten in League Two
Port Vale manager Micky Adams praised his defenders after their 0-0 draw against Rochdale on Tuesday.
"We had some heroic performances," Adams admitted to BBC Radio Stoke.
"Rochdale are top of the league and we were well aware it would be a test for us defensively, but we've dug in and got a well-deserved point.
"We knew [Vale keeper] Chris Martin would have to make saves, but their keeper has had to make a save to keep them in the game as well."
Vale have now gone five games unbeaten in League Two, but remain six points away from a play-off position.
Adams felt Vale had legitimate claims for a penalty after Lewis Haldane had been brought down in the area.
"It's a banker penalty, but I'm bound to say that. From where I was, I've seen them given," he said.
"I'm not sure the referee was in a good position to see it, so I think we've been slightly unlucky.
"This was a real test for us. We came for all three points, we got one, but there won't be too many teams that come here [to Spotland] and get wins."
Meanwhile, Vale have confirmed that Haldane has signed a permanent deal with the club until the end of the season, having agreed a release from his contract at Bristol Rovers.
