Former Aston Villa captain Shaun Teale has applied for the managerial vacancy at Hereford United.
The Bulls relieved John Trewick of his duties on Monday, chairman Graham Turner taking over team affairs.
Teale, 46, has managed Northwich, Chorley and Burscough, who he led to 2003 FA Trophy success.
"It's up to Graham Turner what he is looking for, a young manager or someone with experience," Teale told BBC Hereford & Worcester.
"I have e-mailed the club to let them know of my interest."
Teale , who joined Villa from Bournemouth for £300,000 in 1991, played 181 games for them before moving on to Tranmere in 1995.
Teale admits that it is not easy to find a job in the Football League.
"It is a strange world," he said. "An awful lot of the time the jobs are taken before the man goes out of the door.
"It is quite a closed shop and the art is breaking into the closed shop and getting your coat on the peg.
"I have kept an eye on jobs coming up, and I know Graham Turner and I think it is an interesting job so why not apply for it?"
Having looked at the Bulls' record this season, Teale feels that there are some clear changes to be made.
"The one thing they have not done is score enough goals this season," he said. "The top scorer has only got eight.
"They have also conceded too many, and the discipline is not the best. They have had a few sent off.
"Everything starts at the back. If your back four is tight and there is discipline, you will win games."
