Carlisle United have accepted an undisclosed bid from Colchester for goalkeeper Ben Williams.
The 26-year-old has now been given permission to talk to their League One rivals about a possible move.
The former Manchester United trainee joined Carlisle from Crewe Alexandra last summer.
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "It is a deal that does have a slight complication with it, but it's a complication that is in our favour."
Williams, who played 31 league games for the Cumbrians last season, has a year left on his deal.
