Manx football side beaten by late Republic goal

Football

The Isle of Man lost 1-0 to the Republic of Ireland Amateur FA in their opening game of the Quadrangular Tournament in County Down on Wednesday.

Kevin Manning's team matched the Irish for 84 minutes, but a lapse in concentration led to a late winner and Manx disappointment.

"I'm delighted with the application of the lads but obviously we are annoyed to lose by a late goal," said Manning.

The Island faces Scotland on Thursday before playing the hosts on Saturday.

Manning continued: "We have to pick ourselves up and try even harder against the Scots.

"They are a very tall side so we will make a few changes and hopefully give them a good match."

The biennial tournament is a round robin with the Isle of Man taking on the amateur FA sides of Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.
