    Wales 19-5 South Africa

Double whammy for South Africa with hooker Lindelwa Gwala shown yellow for being offside in the passage of play that led to the score.

She made the tackle on try scorer Lockwood when running back to her line.

    Seren Lockwood

Another terrific score by Wales, and it was so close to a try on debut for wing Amy Williams.

Lisa Neumann spots space in behind and puts in a perfectly-judged grubber kick.

Williams wins the race to the ball but is dragged down a yard short. Lockwood arrives and darts over down the left wing.

Bell's conversion hits the left post.

South Africa completely dominated Wales in the scrum. They forced the front row to stand up, leaving an easy drive-through for Felicia Jacobs to score.

  4. try

Try: Wales 14-5 South Africapublished at 16 mins

    Felicia Jacobs

The scrum-half gets her name on the scoresheet but it was down to her pack.

An absolutely monstrous South Africa scrum shunts Wales off their own ball and Felicia Jacobs has the simple task of going over.

Byrhandre Dolf has an equally simple task from the kicking tee but somehow misses the conversion.

    Wales 14-0 South Africa

Wales have been lethal in the red zone but South Africa have been wasteful.

Another chance goes begging thanks to strong defence by the hosts, with a choke tackle stopping the Springbok Women five metres out.

    Wales 14-0 South Africa

Former Wales captain on BBC One Wales

Two defenders have to commit to Georgia Evans, which gives Sisilia Tuipulotu the line to run in the try. She is going to finish that every day of the week.

Wales are moving the ball into the channels, getting on the front foot and executing in the final. Two entries into the 22 and two tries for Wales.

    Wales 14-0 South Africa

South Africa kick successive penalties to the corner.

They go for a long throw and hammer away at the line only to be held up.

However, Tuipulotu was pinged for offside and the visitors go for a quick tap... and then spill the ball when trying to maul their way over.

Sizophila Solontsi will feel that was a huge chance blown.

That's the Sisilia Tuipulotu we saw break out in the 2023 Women's Six Nations.

Power, hard carrying and she's unstoppable from that range.

Always great to see a prop in free flow!

  9. converted try

Converted try: Wales 14-0 South Africapublished at 9 mins

    Sisilia Tuipulotu (con: Freya Bell)

Kelsey Jones gets over the ball to win a penalty and Wales go quickly again, going from just outside their 22 to South Africa's.

The influential Tuipulotu goes for yet another carry from Georgia Evans' deft pass and the tight-head has too much power for the visitors.

A second try, a second conversion.

    Perfect start.

  10. 'Space to score for Wales'published at 8 mins

    Wales 7-0 South Africa

    Caryl James
Former Wales wing on BBC Radio Cymru

This is a dream start for Wales. The forwards worked really hard; Sisilia Tuipulotu and Alex Callender are getting stuck in.

It's brilliant from Courtney Keight to get over the line with a strong carry. If Wales can get the ball out wide, there is space to score tries.

    Wales 7-0 South Africa

Georgia Evans gets isolated and South Africa turn over the ball.

Evans doesn't get out of the way fast enough and the visitors will kick to just outside the 22.

Wales have come to play. A quick tap penalty and they eventually work their way into the 22.

Georgia Evans and Sisilia Tuipulotu are to the fore and then Alex Callender goes close.

The ball is spread wide for Courtney Keight to go over down the left.

A mix of power to get on the front foot and then vision to identify the space.

Wonderful start by the hosts and Freya Bell adds to it by converting the try by her midfield partner.

Wales have been positive from the off and have already spread the ball out to Amy Williams, but that final pass was not what they wanted as they broke up the wing.

  14. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Wales 0-0 South Africa

First glimpse of South Africa's threat with a strong carry down the left by wing Maria Tshiremba and a strong carry by flanker Catha Jacobs.

South Africa work their way into the 22 but Kate Williams gets over the ball to win a penalty. Great work by the co-captain in the back row.

  15. Postpublished at 1 min

    Wales 0-0 South Africa

    Promising start by Wales.

Big carry by Sisilia Tuipulotu followed by the ball being spread wide for Amy Williams to get an early touch on debut.

Attack fizzles out but early enterprise from the hosts.

Australian referee Ella Goldsmith blows her whistle and Libbie Janse van Rensburg gets us under way on a windy night in Cardiff.

Wales are below South Africa in the world rankings but this is a shot at ending a nine-Test losing streak.

As we mentioned, Sean Lynn's side gained a morale-boosting victory against the Barbarians in June but the last time they won a Test match was against Australia in the first of two World Cup warm-ups Down Under in July 2025.

They've since lost to Australia, Scotland, Canada, Fiji, Scotland, France, England, Ireland and Italy.

We need to see progress at the very least tonight after hugely disappointing campaigns at the World Cup and Six Nations.

This feels like a new squad because of the number of young players Sean Lynn has called up.

I think Lynn believes we can turn the corner through the youngsters in the team, who should get their chance tonight.

Influential players like Jasmine Joyce aren’t even in the 23-player squad tonight, which is a sign that things are changing for Wales.

I am so excited for this battle.

One side has all the history, the other has all the momentum. As to which will carry the most weight, we'll find out in a couple of hours' time.

South Africa are going to be hugely physical. Their pack was superb in the first half against the Black Ferns in their most recent game, but they ran out of steam in the second half.

So it came as no surprise that Wales co-captain Alex Callender told me the plan is to move the ball around and be brave in their on-field decisions.
