Walsall boss Lee Grant says their encouraging start to the season has not altered the view that they have to get better heading into the resumption of their League Two season.
The unbeaten Saddlers won three and drew five of their eight games before the three-week international break and go to Fleetwood Town on Saturday (15:00 BST), hoping to move into the top three in the table.
Grant arranged a behind-closed-doors friendly with Championship side Lincoln City this week to keep his squad sharp and he said that was excellent preparation.
"We at our stadium - that adds another layer to it - both teams are in kit, official EFL referees and they're [Lincoln] really good," Grant told BBC Radio WM.
"We had to work really hard and were challenged from the minute the whistle blew.
"I really like that for our group. I just like that mentality, that work is there, it won't it won't be diminished by whatever sort of performance comes from us [on Saturday].
"In the long term, that'll serve us well. It hasn't got in the way of us trying to improve and trying to move things forward.
"I'm really pleased and proud of the group the way they've gone after the last couple of weeks and looking forward to seeing how it does translate."
Walsall's three wins have come against Accrington and Port Vale at the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium and an opening-day victory at Gillingham.
Home points have also been taken against Grimsby and Rochdale and on the road at Crewe, Exeter and Tranmere, in the last game before the international break.
Grant said he knows there is room for improvement.
"We're feeling like we've done some things OK, and there's a hunger to try to be better," he added.
"It's not one of these ones where I'm sitting here saying 'it's feeling really comfortable' because we've won games or we've not lost.
"We know we've got to be better. And the supporters will echo that.
"They've seen us play really well against Port Vale, and for a half at Crewe. They've seen us finish a game impeccably well at Gillingham but start the game a little bit chaotic so we know we can be more of what we want to be more often and more consistently and it's searching for that all the time."
