Whether that was one-word answers or a five-minute monologue about the club where he spent a decade.

Enzo Maresca will not only have Guardiola's on-field successes to contend with but also his presence off the pitch.

It will be interesting to see today how he tackles this first real meeting with the media.

December 2025: Described the build-up to his side's victory over Everton as "the worst 48 hours" since he arrived at the club "because people didn't support me and the team", but does not elaborate further

January 2026: Leaves Chelsea with the club fifth in the Premier League

May 2026: Guardiola announces he is to leave City after decade in charge

May 2026: Chelsea end season in 10th and miss out on European football having sacked Maresca's replacement Liam Rosenior after just 23 games in charge

June 2026: Appointed Man City boss after compensation package, featuring an undisclosed fee for the Italian, was agreed

Enzo Maresca arrives at Manchester City with huge shoes to fill. How do you begin to replace former boss and serial winner Pep Guardiola?

Maresca knows all too well how tough that will be having been Guardiola's assistant when City won the Treble in 2022-23.

But it seems to be a challenge the Italian is embracing having reportedly been keen to succeed Guardiola once he heard of the Catalan's departure.

The mood among City fans seems to be one of 'let's see' rather than real excitement.

Manchester City appointed former Leicester and Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca as their new boss on a three-year contract at the end of June after the departure of Pep Guardiola.

When he was appointed, Maresca described his new role as a "dream situation":

"Manchester City is a club I know very well and to have the chance to manage this team is a brilliant opportunity for me.

"City is an incredibly well-run football club. Everything they do is innovative, planned and purposeful. For a manager, that is a dream situation. It provides the consistency I need to do my job effectively.

"This will be my third spell here. I know this club, I know the demands and I know the expectations.

"The quality of the people who work here is what makes it so special, and I want to thank them for showing faith in my ability.

"I cannot wait to start coaching the players. I want us to win, play good football and enjoy the pressure of representing Manchester City."

Enzo Maresca will take charge of his first Premier League game as Manchester City manager in just 30 days when Bournemouth travel to the Etihad.
