Quickfire goals at the start of each half helped Bournemouth make it three wins in six days as they beat high-flying Aston Villa to book their place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Fresh from wins against AC Milan in the Europa League and Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford last week, the Cherries earned their first win against Villa in over four years to advance to the last eight of the competition for the first time since the 2018-19 season.

After a weekend in which both teams earneed emphatic wins in the Premier League - with Villa becoming the first side to defeat Manchester City this season - both managers made a significant number of changes for the tie at the Vitality Stadium.

Yet despite making eight changes, Bournemouth's momentum showed little sign of slowing after one of the most remarkable weeks in their history as Amine Adli fired the home side ahead with only seven minutes on the clock.

After sealing the 3-0 victory against AC Milan with a stunning free-kick, the Moroccan forward's second goal in six days was much simpler this time around as he converted from inside the area after a delicate touch and cross from full-back Julio Soler.

Marco Rose's side came close to doubling their lead eight minutes later when Ben Gannon-Doak forced a strong save from Marco Bizot at the near post.

Villa's best chance of the half came just before the half-hour mark when teenager George Hemmings was unable to steer his effort on target from inside the area.

On his second start of the season, 17-year-old forward Brian Madjo was limited to just 12 touches during a half of few chances for Villa.

Bournemouth were marginally quicker out of the traps at the start of the second half, with Lewis Cook doubling their lead only six minutes after the restart.

Just seconds after Bizot had tipped Juanlu Sanchez's effort on to the crossbar, Cook all but made sure of his side's place in the next round from the resulting corner as his cross caught the Aston Villa goalkeeper out at the near post after playing a one-two with Gannon-Doak.

Summer signing Alvaro Rodriguez drilled home a third from with 21 minutes remaining to compound Villa to a first defeat in eight games.
